I have a friend just past there and was asking him about shooting out there... is bell mountain a common known location? If so I'll mention to him - anything specific to know about shooting there?

Bell Mountain is in the town limits of Apple Valley. It is not within the target shooting area of San Bernardino Co.

Town of Apple Valley Municipal Code states:
"11.10.010 Discharge of Firearms and Other Weapons

(a) It is unlawful for any person to shoot, fire or discharge any crossbow, longbow, weapon commonly known as a BB or pellet gun, rifle, pistol, revolver, shotgun or other firearm of any kind within the Town.

(b) The prohibitions set forth in section 11.10.010(a) shall not apply to the following:

1. Peace officers in the lawful discharge of their duty;
2. Persons engaged in pest control in an agricultural area;
3. Persons on their own property or with the permission of the owner of the property when such discharge conforms to all other applicable statutes;
4. Persons at an authorized shooting gallery or target range for which prior approval from the Town Manager or his designee has been granted;
5. Persons engaged in the lawful defense of self, others, or property;
Persons using blank cartridges at a parade, funeral, or theatrical production;
6.Persons using a device commonly known as a "line gun" to project a rope, string or other cord for an otherwise lawful purpose."

All shooting regulations in San Bernardino Co. outside of military bases and incorporated cities are set by county ordnance. This includes BLM lands, Natl Forest, Natl. Park lands, state, county, and private lands.
Here is the current county shooting map:

now I'm confused... does law enforcement turn a blind eye? Or did BLM give Eraseallhope wrong info?

Well, according to the Apple Valley Muni code, it's illegal to shoot there, unless it's private property and your the owner, or have his permission.
So, if you chance it there's 4 possibilities.
1. No deputies drive by and check you out.
2. A deputy drives by and figures your not hurting anything, and nobody has complained about shooting, so he keeps on driving.
3. A deputy contacts you and tells you it's illegal to shoot there, and you have to leave.
4. A deputy contacts you, decides he's going to follow the letter of the law, and writes you a citation.

Me, I'd just drive 10 more minutes up the I-15 to the legal shooting areas, and enjoy the day.

Hodge Rd w/o the I-15 is a popular spot. Just make sure you go far enough west to not be on the private property around the radio towers. Usually a bit crowded there, but the farther west you go, the less crowded.
People shoot around the Calico area, and Ft. Irwin Rd. But basically, any where on public land within the target shooting area is OK. I'd try and find my own spot with no crowds.
