Went to the range the other day and shot 10 rounds through a hole the size of less than a dime at 25 yards using Federal Auto Match bulk ammo from Walmart.
Specs: Pillar/bedded/free floated barrel Stock: Bell and Carlson Odyssey Barrel: Green Mountain 16" .920 stainless Bolt: Ruger head spaced to .044, re-ramped rear for smoother cycling, V-cut for easier charging handle re-install Trigger: Volquartsen Hammer/sear kit: Power Custom ![]() P1020315 by flyingpootang, on Flickr ![]() P1020320 by flyingpootang, on Flickr Last edited by Flyingpootang; 04-28-2011 at 8:54 AM.. |

Tried automatch for the first time in my 10/22 a couple of weeks ago. Meant to do a range report, hope you don't mind if I just piggy back yours. I'm pretty happy with the ammo. First couple of magazines had a couple of jams but after that no more problems. I'll definietly pick up some more next time I'm at walmart.
ten shots per a target at fifty yards. 10/22T scopechief 15X power, also a green mountain barrel. Power custom/volquartsen trigger parts. Thinking of sending my bolt off to be modded at CPC and/or bedding my rifle. See if it helps with those one round fliers ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Pillar bedding, bedding and free floating the barrel made all the difference in accuracy. Re-head spacing the bolt got rid of the first round fliers. It's a good thing I only went to .044 since any lower and the firing pin can start to peen the barrel chamber. IIRC the was a guy on rimfirecentral that was selling modded factory new bolts with all the same mods including pining the firing pin for 69.00

Trob, before floating? nice I wouldn't touch it. What kind of ammo and what distance? If I stuck to 3 shot groups it 1 jagged hole. Shooting 10 rounds you start to loose your center so the groups get bigger ie the dime size hole LOL...
BTW the Tri Mags are a nice accessory. |

It was shooting consistently under 1/4" but I couldnt get into the "Zee-Row" range very often (0.0X" 5-shot groups). So i did some stock work, bedded the action, also added a pressure pad and floated the barrel. This brought it into the Zee-row range pretty easily. The gun that did those is in the 3-Zee club and 2-Zee club on RFC. I have only shot with it at the range 1 time after bedding it, so Im sure it could easily be a 4-Zee gun (4/4 with each being under 0.099") I dont shoot at the range much (gets boring), but I recently finished 2 more rigs that are contenders for the 3 and 4-zee competition. a lot of fun to shoot! ![]() here is my "Sleeper". ![]() Last edited by trob; 04-28-2011 at 3:10 PM.. |

Nice rifle Flyingpootang, You got me! I was going to prove you wrong too, but you can't beat the OTB accuracy on these and when modified "not worth a dime".
Here's one of my 10/22s converted to 17M2, sorry no field report yet. My Dos Centavos, Ed

X-NewYawker: nice barre. I definitely going with a fluted barrel on my next rig. A Blackened fluted stainless would be awesome. Last edited by Flyingpootang; 04-30-2011 at 6:33 PM.. |

To free float it I used a deep socket a little wider than the barrel channel. I started with 80 grit than moved to 120, 400, 600. Since the stock is synthetic I didn't need to seal it. I'll post pics of the pillar/bedding/free floating tomorrow.
