Use the search feature, this has been discussed to death.

Summary:

It's debatable/subjective so you're not going to get a right answer but you will be okay with both.

Hi-point 995...

AR15, easy to disassemble and carry, many calibers to choose from, easy to fix, easy to shoot, lighter, more rail space for the weight, more retailers selling gear, accurate, finding repair parts will be easier since more LEO use AR15s than AK47s...at least in this country they do, cheaper to train with using a common .22lr conversion bolt.

I'll vote other. And my reason is ...

...

...

No reason -- who needs a reason?

I just decided to vote 'other' on your poll ...

I can honestly say in a SHTF scenario a Lever Gun is a very viable option.

If I could, my vote distribution would be:

-AK.
-Other (Mosin, Scoped bolt action, .22 LR rifle, air rifle, m1 carbine).

The one you are the most proficient with. You can have the most epic rifle ever but if you can't hit the dirt at your feet then it will do you no good.

I voted for the search button, I think that would be a great SHTF weapon.

First, read this:
http://www.recipegirl.com/2010/06/03...ctory-recipes/

Then, learn all you can from this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mv9TqWDm_yU

Then take two Prevacid, 1 Cialis, and 3 Viagra. Call John Mccain in 4 hours if you-know-what still exists, he'll know what to do.

While you will definitely benefit from seeing other threads containing this topic, you will have to decide for yourself what SHTF means. Short term, long term, or forever? Are you leaving, or holing up? Living in an urban area/community/rural region? House or tent? Hunting or eating Spam?

Each variable will influence your final decision. Consider building up a small armory to suit your perceived need. It probably ain't ever gonna happen anyway, so have fun buying.

Cheers,
Longbow

I don't know about a rifle, but if SHTF. I'd suggest some 409 or Lysol or both. Plus a case of paper towels.

OP, since you are a "geetarguy"
what guitar would you recommend for SHTF?
I think I would go with a Telecaster. The bolt on neck would be the strongest to deal with terrorist zombies. I know most folks will say Strat, but I think the trem system is unreliable.
I mean, who needs to dive bomb when SHTF? That only happens in movies.

Hands down, the PS74. It's the most innovative best AR system ever designed.

Form follows function. Function wins the SHTF.
