Thanks for doing the review! if you ever want to do another budget red dot torture test, may I suggest the Primary Arms M3 red dot?

As of today, the unit is still working and the malfunctions have ceased. Maybe the optic just has to be "broken in" like a barrel.

Lol, I'm glad to hear that your vortex is functional! But I don't think it needed a break in period lol the recoil from your rifle most likely shook a component back into place.

I recently picked up one of these and put about 100 rounds thru it.

The optic did great and hasn't suffered any issues.

Folks that used it at the range commented on how clear the optic was.

I really like that it came with just about everything (mounts, bikini cover, 2x magnifier).

It is a very nice and light optic for the price.

Recoil of the Beowulf is similar. So far the second unit is working fine.

Sounds like similar issues I had with mine, and it was only on a 5.56. It was fine for plinking here and there, but failed on me at FrontSight. Same on/off issues, dot ghosted, etc. Back to the drawing board I guess. At least they have a great warranty.

I had an EOTech before too, but can't decide which route to go now. EOTech XPS+/-magnifier, ACOG+/- RMR, Accupoint+/-RMR, Aimpoint+/-magnifier...

Just an update. The second unit is still working fine despite the beating it's taking from the Beowulf recoil.

Just a quick note guys, 99.9% of the time if a sparc is flickering it is because the battery cap is not on tight enough.

On another note as you might imagine I have done some fairly extensive durability testing on both the Strikefire and Sparc. I would have to give the edge to the sparc. I have a couple of longterm endurance test units that have been through numerous amounts of tests including heat(however hot mapp gets), thousands and thousands of rounds of full auto AK, literally thrown around/against walls and beaten with mallets, and they continue to function to this day.

All in all the Sparcs are a great little sight with an affordable price tag that has an extremely low failure rate and generally the few that do fail(below.05%) are caused by being assembled incorrectly, which is just reality when humans are inv.

wow. great thread. I have been looking at the sparc and the burris fast fire as M.I. offers a top rail section to go on my exisiting M.I. ak rail that will allow me to use either the sparc or fast fire and go co-witness. had my mind made up to buy the fast fire but looks like I may go sparc. Good customer service is so hard to find now a days and the pretty much is the seller! thanks to scott and his company for going the extra mile for customers!

Just a final followup. As Scott noted, It turns out that the battery compartment cover was loose and snugging it up well stopped the malfunctions with the second optic. We ended up shooting it for another 6 months at about 30 rounds per weekend with no issues. Just had to snug down the the cover occasionally. Since we closed the rental business last year, I just removed the optic today and it now lives on the wife's suppressed 15/22 rifle for a quiet and peaceful retirement. A new Aimpoint Pro is now on the Beo. Let's see if it can match the Sparc in recoil tolerance.
