^^^^^^ - thanks for posting
Good to hear that it will have the same look. 0.8oz more will be fine. The SD was front heavy to begin with.

Yeah i was worried the replacement would be from the regular gsg-5, or something smaller than the SD fake can.

So help me ID these silly things. The SD version is the one with the round front grip and a larger fake shroud? This is the one being recalled, right?
The "regular" GSG-5 with the authentic looking front grip matching the mp-5 is not recalled, correct? ATI doesn't even have any photo's on their website anymore to ID these darned things, due to the wonderful HK lawsuit. What about the titanium model, whatever they called it. Is that one affected also? Thanks

Yeah, it sucks, cause I just heard about this as I was at the shop to p/u my SD,
WTF!!??!!

What I was tols was if one was so inclined, they could, in theory, port the barrel, & pack the tube to make an NFA taxed, real supressor

I do suggest that if you shoot an SD at a public range, that you do this recall, because if you don't, you are in poessetion of an un-reg/taxed NFA item, and will be in for some bad juju

I'm not surprised by this move from the BATF.

A few months ago I was looking at the GSG SD in a store and I unscrewed the shroud. When I saw it was hollow I thought WTF.

If you decided to "port" the original barrel and then re-install the shroud, you would have something very similar to an actual MP5 SD.

I'll bet the fake can on this firearm has an inner sleeve and won't be considered a suppressor by the ATF
http://www.hk22rimfire.com/index.php?page=mp5-sd

One could speculate that perhaps the mfg of that firearm had something to do with encouraging the ATF to take a closer look at the ATI GSG can

Anyone get the new SD fake can yet? I went to Turner's about 2 weeks ago to turn it in and they still haven't gotten anything back from ATI yet. I'm just waiting for the new ones to get in so that I can go back to the range.

I sent mine back on 2/25 and got it back today 3/4, so ATI is doing a pretty good job on the replacement turnaround. I shipped mine in directly to ATI, and not thru a dealer. I dont know how much time going thru a dealer adds.

It looks the same but with a pronounced "ring" around the opening for the barrel that wasnt there on the old style.

Looks just like the one in the pics in this thread.

Yep, should have sent mine back directly!!!...it's still sitting at Turner's warehouse until they get a big shipment together and then they will actually send it back to ATI!! Mine has been sitting there since the 2/16!! They said I couldn't get it back and so I could send it myself...what a waste of time!

Just wanted to add my experience as well. UPS delivered the GSG-5 SD barrel shroud (I refuse to refer to it as a suppressor--fake or otherwise) to ATI this past Monday morning (3/8). I just received my replacement shroud this afternoon (3/10) in the regular mail. Don't know if everyone will have the same experience but I was very impressed & pleased with ATI (especially having it arrive so quickly all the way out here in Kalifornia). It fits & looks great. Thanks ATI.

Yeah, I took my shroud back to Turner's on 2/16 and got mine back today 3/18!...they told me it took a while since they are sending them all back to their warehouse until they get a large batch before they send it out to ATI.

If I were you, just send it directly to ATI to save the time. ATI's turn-around for these are pretty quick now from what everyone is saying.

I just read this thread now. So I can send the fake suppressor back to ATI directly? Not sure when I'll get a chance to do this... I don't understand what the problem is or how the new one would function any different.

WTF... you gotta beleive that the ATF T&E'd a GSG right out of the box... if anybody who has one recalls, when you open the box- the stock is removed- gun is about 23" long- and functional at that 23" length. THAT would be a reason to violate you on NFA. NOT a friggin aluminum tube.

It has been determined that this shroud is regulated under the National Firearms Act. American Tactical will provide a replacement shroud at no charge for each GSG 5 SD model sold or currently in inventory.
Consumers in possession of a GSG 5 SD model with the original shroud in place on the firearm are now in violation of the NFA. To avoid continued violation of the NFA, ATI asks that all persons in possession obtain a replacement shroud as soon as possible. We anticipate arrival of the new shrouds to begin by the middle of February 2010.
IMPORTANT: THE ORIGINAL SD MODEL SHROUD MUST BE RETURNED ACOMPANIED BY THE FIREARM SERIAL NUMBER BEFORE A REPLACEMENT SHROUD IS ISSUED. THE DIAMETER OF THE SD SHROUD IS 1-9/16”. DO NOT RETURN THE SMALLER CARBINE SHROUD.
WHAT TO DO:
If possible return your old shroud to the dealer where purchased and show him this notice. The shroud will be returned to ATI along with a list of serial numbers from the guns that the shrouds were removed. ATI will send replacements to the dealer for pick up at your convenience; ATI will be sending replacements as fast as logistics allow. If your dealer is out of business or difficult to reach, or you purchased your gun used, from a consumer, return the shroud directly by US mail or UPS to American Tactical Imports Inc. 100 Airpark Drive Rochester, NY 14624.
PLEASE TRY NOT TO CALL US. We will provide comprehensive information on our web site www.americantactical.us , and www.ar15.com or by e-mail to atiexchange@americantactical.us
REMEMBER, INCLUDE THE FIREARM SERIAL NUMBER WITH EACH SHROUD OR A REPLACEMENT WILL NOT BE ISSUED.
This action IS NOT being instituted through any fault and is strictly due to NFA compliance. American Tactical will assume the responsibility to satisfy the requirements in an effort to minimize the impact on our customers and protect your investment.
We at American Tactical Imports Inc. sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this unfortunate situation.

Whoops
I went to a gun show yesterday and saw 2 GSG5-SD with the big can on the dealer's table. Apparently there are still some floating around.

I don't own one and never will. I don't like the MP5 Platform or a .22 based on it. But with my opinion of the BATF(Forum won't let me print my version
of what BATF stands for) I believe that their real intent is just to harass owners of the GSG,hidden behind a quasi-legal interpretation
