Here is a stock i am doing for my M21 build. this is a Freds USGI fiberglass stock. This is all hand cut tape to do the stripes. I think it came out decent.

Here she is... Not quite done, still need a BCG and BUIS, plus I need to add a clearcoat next weekend (just shot the barrel today after I got the upper assembly back from Riflegear).

Aluma-Hyde Coyote base, Desert Sand primary top color, with Rustoleum dark brown and smidgen of forest green.

Hey guy's heres a tip for those using krylon and or home depot rattle cans when your project is dry thoroughly, put a couple coats of clear lacquer over it in light coats and it will last far longer, you can get it in flat, satin, semi,or gloss. made by Valspar available at paint stores. ALWAY'S test it first!!!!!!

I've had a lot of issues with compatibility with rattle can clearcoats, including a 2nd coat of clear causing serious wrinkling, and going into "never-dry mode" where the finish is still slightly tacky months later.

AlumaHyde-II clear is compatible over Krylon/RustOleum, and is more durable than hardware store clears.

All true thats why I use lacquer it dries almost instantly! so no wrinkles but yes compatability always a concern so test first....

I used to experiment with painting on airsoft rifles. I never had enough courage to paint a real firearm. All of this was done with spray cans and stencils I made.

I will be painting my Rem700 5R stock in the next month or so. It will be multicam like the airsoft rifles I painted above. The barrel will be painted black with Aluma-Hyde II and the multi-cam will be done with Krylon and Aluma-Hyde II Clear coat.

Make sure you post pictures when you finish! Or even write up a how-to. I still can't seem to get up the guts to spray my AR.. Maybe one of these days.

Your multicam looks good on those airsoft guns! I noticed the outlines around the colors are somewhat fuzzy.. Any reason for that or is it just how it came out?

It's not a rifle, but it IS the testbed for what I will do to my AR.

The outlines are fuzzy because I dusted the final project with a little tan (if I remember correctly.) I didn't like the abrupt edges of it and thought it made the whole job blend better. I am getting closer to having time to paint my 700. I haven't done it yet because I keep changing things on it and want to have it perfect when I paint it.

I will try to do a write up and maybe a couple videos on it. I think this type of painting will catch on really quickly when or if the Army permanently switches to multicam.

I feel the same way.
When I painted mine, I held the masks an inch or two away from the parts to lightly feather the edges.

Good call. The trick to multicam is to have a little bit of both. If you look at the multicam pattern, some lines are crisp while others are more faded. I think I am going to continue to work on this technique before I paint my Rem700.

So we see the nice job you did, how does it do against a darker background with redwood, pine, and sequoia trees?? I'm interested in a do-all camo that I can do myself. Thanks for the inspiration man!

well here is the thing when you are in the woods there are shadows everywhere so it appears darker. It works like ACU does it gets draker in shadows and appears like a woodland camo.

take a look at this picture it's ACU and German woodland Flectarn

That is one of the only photos (besides the guy on the couch) that I have seen where ACU blends in...
