There is no written policy in Sac county against modded guns that I'm aware of. There is also no inspection of the firearms you qualify with by anyone at SSD.

My guns were "inspected" when I took the class. They didn't take them apart or anything just looked at them and wrote down the serial numbers. I don't think this will be an issue in Sacramento County.

Those that dropped off their paperwork on the 16th should be getting a happy surprise in the mail today.

I believe the code now is, "Man, I need to get a bigger wallet!"

Thanks for all you do Cal Guns.

No restrictions have been indicated by SSD, though one applicant was told verbally by Det. Wright during interview he couldn't have a mag bigger than 10 rounds (I don't believe that's correct or binding since it's not in writing.) I specifically got a .357 sig barrel for my FNP-40 listed and it's okay.

I'm expecting I will need a bigger wallet on Monday... mail takes a little longer to get to the southern edge of the county.

Hahaha me too. Showed up around noon. This thing is huge! I trimmed mine up so at least it fits in my wallet now. Barely. I wasn't expecting it to be laminated, is that something new? I was thinking it was like Placer and just a piece of paper.

It's just a piece of paper but they've laminated the licenses for a while now, from all I've heard.

Yeah, I knew from when jb7706 posted a few months ago that they came laminated and had to be trimmed. I was wondering if the plastic laminate was actually attached to the paper or if it is just the seal on the edges holds it together. I may have trimmed mine a little too much if it's only held together at the edges.

I think this probably sounds ridiculous .... I'm not really that worried about this small stuff, just curious.

congratulations to all, and i hope to be joining the club soon. i sorta knew they didnt inspect the pistols before you got the license, the thing i had heard was that if you do get in an incident, they confiscate your gun and go through it, and if it has modifications, its a reason to prosecute you. like you intended to kill since you modified the weapon. hoping the guy spouting this was just full of it.

Tried to figure out what type of wallet to get and just for the life of me couldn't think of one that I would want to carry and this would fit in. Simple solution - trimmed the edges and folded it in half across the short edge, took a rolling pin and ran it across the crease. Worked - seems to be fine and now its in my wallet. I am not expecting to be pulling it in and out a bunch so in the two years it is valid it should survive. Problem solved.

I know this has been brought up before, but I have a friend who lives right across Sacramento river in west Sac (yolo county). She spends about 15 hrs a day in Sacramento (Sac county) working and socializing, including weekends , she is hardly ever home. What would be here chances of getting a permit from Sac County? Would it hurt to apply?

I believe that they can only be issued to actual residents of the county - how much time you spend in the county is not an eligible issue criteria, or else everyone would go to liberal issue counties (the rural ones?) for a CCW.

BTW, dropped off my initial app on 11/17, still no approval yet, but they did say end of December most likely. Maybe Santa will send me a present in the mail!

Technically, there's a 90 Day CCW that's available. It's only valid within the County that issued it. Practically speaking, very few are ever issued. A standard 2 year license can only be issued to residents of that county. She's going to have to look at applying to Yolo County. I wish her luck.

So anyone have any updates?

I did my livescan over a month ago and haven't heard anything back yet. I even shot Amber an email on Monday or Tuesday and nothing back from her yet.

I tried a year ago and they told me no, I'm not sure how it is now.

She responds, but be patient. Tuesdays are days that she meets with the renewals and people doing their final step for a new permit. Wednesdays and Thursdays she is doing the interviews for the application turn ins and she is training a person that's helping her. She has responed to my emails but usually after a couple of days.

I did my livescan on November 3 and I am also still waiting. I emailed Amber on December 7 and she promptly responded by saying that she has been overwhelmed by paperwork but is working on getting things sent out.

It seems like paperwork is getting sent out very slowly these days...

How long was the line on Tuesday?

I would say 8 to 10 people. Nobody turned away that I know of.

Wow, almost a slow day for Amber. Hopefully she can catch up on the paperwork with those still with pending applications.

The guy helping her made it seem like the busy days are Wed and Thurs. She was out sick last week so I was expecting double traffic because of the people turned away last week, but no, it wasn't that bad at all. So, maybe the initial flood has turned to a steady stream or most people from the last committee meeting have come through already. Maybe they are throttling the flow of approvals to slow the workload.

If they're busy on Wednesday and Thursdays, that may mean that the flow of new applications is even higher now due to publicity, etc. and then Tuesdays will be very busy in another month or two.

So I pulled up the Sunshine Initiative fundraising info for Sacramento. There are only 5 sponsors. I suspect more than 3 times this amount have received or are in the process of receiving their CCWs.

County: Sacramento

Goal: $2,500.00

Donations: $500.00

Needed to meet goal: $2,000.00

Please help out and sponsor to recover the costs associated with getting Sacramento to "shall issue" as now you have tasted the fruits of the team's labor.

If you have additional funds, sponsor another county as well.

Dropped off final paperwork at SCSO today. I was met by a retired SCSO captain who took the first 4 up to Ambers office at 8:45.
Sat down signed and finger printed the permit. Turned in papers and out the door at 8:55. there was 2 more waiting down stairs.
It looks like these 2 retired Captains are there to help out Amber. She seemed ecstatic to have them there to help.
Thanks CGF and Ms. Sykes, I'm almost there. ....

The December committee is expected to be meeting soon. Those of us who dropped off our applications should have our letters by the end of December, maybe sooner....a Christmas present! Maybe?

Holy cow Ty, you have been at this for quite a while now. How long since you started the application?

Good Cause reseach. Court documents obtained 3 trips to Placer county court for documents used to draft a GC statement. (prior to the "self defence" instructions). 2 trips April 2010 final trip May 2010 Photocopied documents $48.00.
Appointment made with Amber June 22nd.
Appointment on July 15th $20.00
Check cleared July 22nd.
Sheriff called August 18th.
GC Acceptance letter dated October 15th. (92 days later)
Training Oct. 18th-19th $130.00
Live Scan October 20th. $122.00
Federal background sent to SCSO electronically October 22nd.
DOJ background submitted Dec. 2
DOJ letter from Amber Dated Dec. 8th.
Recieved Letter Dec. 11th
Drop off Training and another $80.00 Dec. 14th.
Certificate arrived in mailbox. ????????

So from first contact with Amber till today is It is 175 days.

Now if we can get the rest of the County's to get on board then we have a big win for all.

Went in for livescan back in October, have not heard anything since. I did check by phone, and both background checks were completed the day after I was printed. I guess we just keep waiting...

In the "Sacramento CCW" thread Brandon posted the SSD's new written instructions of the process and it states that the DOJ takes 30-90 days to get back to them. As I reported somewhere previously, Amber told me last month that she received a written certified report by the DOJ so I imagine that lags well behind what their automated system reports.

Based on other information, DOJ/FBI should not run more than 30 days unless other factors present (not necessarily related to the applicant).

Sacramento County is issuing basically on a "shall issue" basis right now.

Here are the procedures: http://www.sacsheriff.com/organizati...heriff/ccw.cfm

If you don't have a criminal history and you can leagally possess a gun, you'll get approved ... for now!

I want to see more good people carrying!!

Sincerely,

Wes
