Question Help?

Im impressed to say the least, of your reputation. I recently finished my LR308 build (in .308win) with a 16 inch 1/10 barrel. Ive have no idea the effective range of this combo. I "think" I want an illuminated Mil dot rectile, mil dot turrets, and thats about all I know. I would like to work my way out to 600-700 yards, if possible, but mainly range time, but getting into hunting and would love to use this gun. Ive also read that an illuminated rectile on high quality scopes are almost pointless in the fact the optic is so bright, if you cant see your rectile, you cant see what your shooting at, is this accurate? If so I dont need it . My budget can be up to 1200- 1300, I havent skimped on any other parts but dont want to waste money either. Im thinking Trijicon accupoint2.5-10 , or Nightforce 2.5-10, but dont know if I want/need zero stop . Would these be sound choices? As a novice LR shooter would i be better off with a Millett or Nikkon?I just want to do this right the 1st time, thanks in advance

Thanks for your inquiry, and congrats on your new rifle. A 16 inch barrel will limit your range a bit but 600-700 yards should be no problem. To answer your last question, Nikon over Millett all day long. The Nightforce would be a fine option in the 32mm model. Not too crazy about the wire reticle Accupoints. For the price point, Lupy Mark 4, IOR 2.5-10x42 or 4.5-14x50, Sightron SIII LR series, the upcoming Vortex Viper PSTs would all be great.

As for illumination, it's nice to have. In low lightm you may well see your target well with good glass but the reticle can be lost in the shadows. Nice to know where the bullet will go.
