Default Repro Trench guns

I have always wanted a trench gun for a very long time, but I can't afford a real one. I recently got the SOG flyer, and they have the m97 trench gun which I think is made by Norinco. Now, this is very affordable, but does anyone else know of a place in California or any place cheaper that stocks them? Looks like SOG is currently sold out. I think the cheapest FFL near me charges $50 for transfers.

A Chinese repro of a M1917 trench shotgun seems so wrong to me.

you could just get a 20" 1897 shotgun and add the bayonet lug and heat shield when you get it. i have an 18.5" 1897 take-down and am eventually planning on getting a 20" barrel and installing the bayo lug and heat shield later.

^^^^^^^^
edit: exactly what I was thinking.

I've been thinking of building a repro myself lately. I would start with an actual Winchester 97 though. You can find them in serviceable condition for about the price of the Chinee knockoff. This site has reproduction bayo lug/heatshields. Kinda steep at $175. Then if you Google around you can find the bayonets for around $100. You could probably put the whole thing together for around $500-$600.

my problem is getting the 20" barrel, those cost something like $200. but every now and then you can find a 1897 with a longer barrel that can be chopped down. I don't care too much for my barrel since it's a mismatch with the receiver so that doesn't matter.

oh and the noricos should be solid frames instead of takedowns so they should be more durable for bayonet impacts. dunno how often I'm gonna need to bayonet something, i figure it's gonna be a rare thing, so I'm only putting one on mine cuz it looks cool.

You could also check here for 20" barrels.

I wonder if there is a difference in barrels between solid frame, and take-down shotguns. thanks for the link, 127 is cheaper than 200 i would've spent otherwise!

I have a chicom knock and a real winchester. It's not bad of a repro.

Out of the box, I just needed some file work to smooth out some bits. The rest was racking it menacingly inside the house at the television set.

That gun genie website is great, but the closest place that has them in stock for a reasonable price is around 40 minutes away. Not bad, and better then paying any transfer fees. Now for building my own, that sounds good too. I just checked gunbroker and their are a few on their that look like good projects. Tough decision, because if it gets anymore expensive, I will just put in for a CMP Garand and start saving more cash for a bayonet and trench gun later.

Got one from Davidsons back in 2007. Good repo and have had zero failures with it. It consumes any ammo I feed it. Nothing like my 870 which was a PITA until I got it fixed.

^ have you gotten cut before?

I've heard the chicoms were notorious for giving the user a lovebite, but I've never come across such a thing.

With the real one, I have...

^ First thing in the morning, my roommate comes back home with a Winchester model 1897 (FTF from a CG'er), so naturally the first we do is cycle the action, load snapcaps and check it out.

Well, I'm left-handed, 5 minutes later...OUCH! I cut myself with the action. Apparently this is a common problem for lefty's.
