Default What is that tube like thing on the end of these barrels?

This is an image from an ITTS Sniper course. What are those sausage-like objects covering the muzzles? And any idea what that long object is sticking out of the backpack of the guy on the right?

(I just got a Remington 700 myself and am looking for new things to buy!!)

Looks like a monopod to rest the rifle in the guy's pack?

Seems like they're shooting out of Eagle's Nest at Angeles?

It looks like a foam tube that's been painted green, or a suppressor with a velcro'd on cover.

What if I have a pre-ban sausage just laying around?

I have a Gallo dry salami threaded for 5/8-24 I used to play with, but it smells like pizza when you shoot with it and just makes you hungry.

I think the other thing is a bicycle pump to inflate his Ghillie suit!

By the way that's a surpressor with a cover to keep things from burning when the can gets hot.

One question.. If they are using suppressors, why are they wearing ear protection?

First of all those are suppressors and they look like thay have TAB supressor covers on them. They just cover the supressor because it get really hot after repeated firings. The thing in the pack is a just a monopod/shooting stick.

Suppressors do quiet the sound enough that it is much quieter and you dont have to wear ear protection but even they you can incur hearing damage. Just the sound of the bullet breaking the sound barrier is very loud and thats why, even with a suppressor it will hurt your ears. Suppressors are also an effective muzzle brake and flash suppressor so they serve many purposes. The only way to get a truly quiet rifle is to use a suppressor and shoot sub sonic rounds and then your range is pretty limited. Its not like Hollywood portrays it at all. If you shoot matches outside of CA you will see supressors alot. Some matches even are for suppressed only rifles.

I'm not sure how one should respond to this except:

To each his own.

Don't ask, don't tell.

I would laugh so hard if "sausages" is what Calgunners called them from now on. I actually really like the ring to it.

Let use it in a sentence...

"in 2 weeks we can have sausages."

I agree. Looks like some kind of cover over the suppressor which makes the shape look wavy and deformed which is why the OP probably asked.

Yep, its a Tactical Sausage Cover designed to keep hot sausage grease from scalding the shooter's hands upon removal. It also acts as an insulator to keep the sausage warm for post-range consumption. The TSC is an invaluable asset in SHTF scenarios.

It just makes sense to wrap your sausage these days. You never know what kind of dangers are lurking out there. We need every level of protection we can get.

Kids, wrap your sausage before you go to the shooting range!

Would those be latex free sausage covers? Some people are allergic to latex.

When I fire a lot, my sausage tends to get pretty hot. Sometimes I like to cover my sausage so as not to offend others. At times it's so I don't embarrass them by catching them sausage gazing, and also it just prevents any kind of sausage envy, so I just throw a robe on it. If you've ever been in the military, you'll know them by their name, "sausage robe".

S/F,
