It's possible/likely that your surplus is loaded hotter than current production rounds, magnifying its tendency to slap you. Given the time and place (and budget) of their creation, however, none of these old giggle-beasts are gonna be as refined as an Ed Brown 1911. My recommendation would be proactively applying a small band-aid to the trigger finger when you have more than one box of 7.62x25. ('cuz shooting gloves are, well, 'pretentious...'
