Hi, all--
I'm looking for a well-built, soft ballistic nylon, discreet single pistol case that can hold mags securely in a separate pocket. It should be slim and nondescript, like a laptop bag in appearance. Basically, I'm looking for a scaled-down version of the awesome Blackhawk Discreet Homeland Security rifle cases, which look a lot like MIDI keyboard bags. I LOVE how secure the mag pouches are inside the front pocket, and the velcro straps make it very easy to secure everything inside the bag. Here are a few cases that are similar to what I'm looking for, to give you guys an idea of the direction I'm going in. http://www.opticsplanet.net/snug-fit...stol-bag.html# ^ This one is the closest to what I want, except that there is no padding in the front pocket where the magazines go, and the magazine sleeves are a bit loose, so the magazines fall out easily. It'd be perfect otherwise. http://www.blackhawk.com/product/SOC...se,458,134.htm ^ This one would be awesome if the pouches it came with were all magazine pouches. I mean, what good is a suppressor pouch going to do me in this state? Also, the clear plastic business-card sleeve and map sleeve are just plain tacky. I'd end up cutting them off. http://www.511tactical.com/browse/Ho...:10910/I/58724 ^ The price on this one can't be beat, but it's also a pretty cheap, generic case. Lots of companies rebrand this one as their own. I like that it can hold a lot of mags, but the elastic straps are crap and won't last long. Still, I listed this one because it's pretty much got the right idea going and looks like a laptop sleeve. http://www.opticsplanet.net/bulldog-...tol-bd511.html ^ This one is also priced low, but it doesn't have much in the way of features. The mags would be held in place by the pressure of the open-cell foam egg-crate lining. The only good thing about this bag is that it really, really looks like a laptop bag. http://store.thewilderness.com/index.php?cPath=70_51 ^ Although technically a holster and not a case, it would be awesome if this could be locked. And The Wilderness is a great company--I'm sure they'd add a zipper if I ordered one. The best part about this holster/case is that it is so discreet and holds the pistol very, very securely. The bad part is that it only holds one extra mag securely--any extra mags would be bumping around in the undivided front pocket. And the price, especially with a custom-ordered lockable zipper--ouch! So, do you guys have any recommendations on cases that are similar to the ones above? I'm willing to pay more for stuff that's well made or custom-made (like The Wilderness' products). Or go the complete other direction and get a "disposable" case that I'll replace intermittently. The important thing is that it keeps the pistol and mags secure and be as discreet as possible. Thanks in advance!

I have the Wilderness Tactical Safepacker (Govt sized). It's actually smaller than you'd imagine. My USP .45 with a GG&G rail and TLR-1 attached just fits into the holster space. If I use the magazines with the finger extension base plates, it doesn't really fit all that well. The outer pouch isn't really big enough to comfortably store double-stack magazines but I'd imagine single stack would be okay. But like you said, they're not secured in any way so they'd be rattling around.
For what it is though, I really, really like it. It's not a case to carry back and forth to the range. It's perfect to discreetly keep a handgun for emergency encounters with nasties and very versatile based on the straps & loops. I keep my USP in it and that's the "package" that goes in and out of my safe daily for HD. So it really depends on what you'll be using it for. |

There's this one... $25 tomorrow (Nov 4) only, normally $50
http://www.tommysgunpack.com/Product...ctCode=TGP-043 It's not too discreet with the mag packs on the outside. One of my bags is a pretty discreet bag with 6 mag pockets on one side and two pistol pockets on the other side... small exterior pocket for paperwork/hunting license. It's similar to this UTG (holds 5 mags): http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-BLACK-LOCKAB...item1c0da97e4c

http://www.tommysgunpack.com/PhotoGa...Code=TGP%2D034 Thanks for introducing me to Tommy's Gun Packs. Their biggest bag, though a 2-gun bag, looks to be a great combination of the features I need and high-quality construction. Under those cheesy elastic band straps, there appear to be some magazine sleeves (not padded, but the elastic will keep the mags from hitting each other). Perfecto! ----- Edit: I am now considering custom-ordering a 1-gunner case from Tommy's Gun Packs. I've asked them to sew some mag pouches (instead of the elastic) into the large center compartment of the pack. If they do so, this would be the perfect bag for me. If they don't, I'll just get the bag with the elastic OR get the 2-gunner super duper bag. Thanks, Cokebottle!

I'd give Pat a call to confirm. Pat makes some great quality stuff. I've got one of his "Sidekick" bags, and it's going to be perfect for when I get my CCW... for now, it's just a very nice fanny pack. His stuff isn't cheap, but it's good, and he's always running sales on one item or another, so get on his mailing list and if you can wait, sit tight and you'll be able to get his stuff for his typical 50% discount (couldn't hurt to just ask and let him know that a very happy customer referred you). He's in Simi Valley, so shipping is quick to the LA area.

What I need for the desert is an inexpensive drop-leg holster that can accommodate an XD9 with a low-profile laser that's good for OC.

If you save up a bit, check out Tactical Tailor, who are highly regarded for their drop-leg holsters. You might also like the Blackhawk holster: http://www.blackhawk.com/product/Ome...ter,786,34.htm What I'd do is build a rig using the Tactical Tailor modular drop-leg MOLLE platform, then bolt a Raven Concealment or Blade-tech light/laser molded holster to it. Likely a very expensive proposition, though. BTW, I ended up ordering the Tommy's Gun Packs 1-gunner Deluxe case, fully loaded with every option available. Came out to just under $100 without tax and shipping. Thanks again for the recommendation!

Funny that you should mention a generic bag like that. I was looking at laptop and netbook bags yesterday for the very purpose. But I didn't like how most of them are too hard to lock--many of them had solid zipper pull tabs that would have to be drilled out to accept a padlock. Excellent advice--it would be awesome to pick up a used Eagle Industries leg rig--they make probably the best one out there.

Got one, not sure that I like it... need to take it to the range, but it seems too bulky. I'm glad it was only $15 because I have a feeling it's going to end up in the "crap I shouldn't have bought" box.
