gif's take up more space on the boards if they are allowed to be uploaded to calguns for storage (to link to your profile) but if they aren't stored on the site it won't affect this board.

Many forums have banned them because they can contain virulent code.
They can hammer those on dialup unless there is a max size setting... loading an animated gif can be only slightly faster than hammering out an animated stone tablet on some connections... And sometimes browsers puke on them. The three most recent Firefox updates have been extremely unstable... they haven't fixed the stability, but at least they made the recovery upon reloading cleaner

I cant believe people are complaining that gifs slowing up their connections and computer. If i can load this post on my iPhone (which I can), with no issues what kind crap service are you using?
Seriously? 21st century people, get with the times. Connection speed shouldnt even be an argument. BTW.

I understand bandwidth issues. However, isn't there the ability to limit the size of GIF file to be used so as to keep things reasonable. I load pages in forums full of GIF's. I have never had an issue.
