I'm sure that safety is the number one factor here as there will be a considerable amount of people, guns, and tannerite.

Which brings up the main point of my post.

I have absolutely no problems with tannerite and setting things up to get blown up by it or setting things on top of a tannerite charge in order to launch it into the air. I get a huge kick out of it and I'm sure everyone else does, judging by the amount people are saying they'll be bringing.

However, I do have an issue with anything setup for "launch" at NIGHT. By launch I mean, anything of significant size, that will most probably go up a significant height and it being night, not knowing where it will come down. During the day this isn't too much of an issue as we can all pretty much try and run out of the way.

We've all seen videos of propane tanks, steel drums, etc, shooting hundreds of feet in the air. In some cases, right up, over and landing BEHIND the firing line. I'm sure we can all agree that this poses a big threat to our safety as well as our property (picture a 55 gal drum coming down on the hood of your truck).

I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but just looking out for us.

Comments?
I agree. objects should not be falling from the sky at night time. I have no problem with them falling during the day though.

Much good is coming out of the safety discussions. It would be important to make sure all shooters are aware of the rules. Maybe someone could write up the rules for a safe shoot and hand out a copy to all that show up. Also it should be agreed upon to assign a couple of guys to RO duties to keep order and safety on the minds of all if this hasn't been already discussed.

Hope all you guys have a great time and please take lots of pics for posting.

How many guys are going to the shoot who are from the east bay area, Concord, WC, P Hill, Antioch, San Ramon, Dublin area? Would it be good to caravan down together, maybe meet up before everyone hits the road at say, Ihop or some place for breakfast, eat, then convoy down together? It eliminates people getting lost and stragglers. We are planning to head out at around 9:30am, and be back later that evening. Who wants to join in? Gio? Baron?

This is Barons post about the other spot. Looks perfect to me. As laong as were not in a firefight from the high ground.

But I did check out the second spot. It's perfect and yes you guys are correct on the location... The driving wasn't as bad as what was posted above. It seemed really really compacted to me and I don't see any reason why a 2wd car couldn't make it. I never had to put my durango in 4wd and never slipped or anything.

BLM did contact us. And yes they did tell us about the need for a permit for this large of a group. They are willing to waive the permit this one time due to us not knowing about it and there wouldn't be enough time to obtain one anyways. BLM is being real cool with us. They do know about everything we are planning for this event and they have no problem with any of it. I have talked with them personally and they actually do like us out there (CALGUNS) because we take out more then we take in and do a good job cleaning the place up. Heck Sunday I took out 2 garbage bags full of old Brass and cassings, plus some old shoes others have left out there. DFG was really the one who was getting worried, but BLM has talked to them and it's all good. Like I said BLM is being really cool with us. So I feel it's only fair to consider a friendly suggestion. Plus the location had a real "end of the world feel to it... Kinda like a "Hills have Eyes" sort of feel.

Here's some pics of the Location from Sunday

I think this spot would be perfect for the shoot.
There's good backstops all the way around. There's only one way in and out, so no chances of any random person driving through the shooting lanes. Also it will be easy to set up 2 shooting courses in opposite directions at the same time... as long as we have enough RO's...
Lots of room for parking and camping

I have recieve Items for the raffle, so that's pretty cool
But if some people don't want to go to the new location and want to shoot at the usual spot it's all good, I'll return what ever doesn't get raffled off.
I'll have my 17 targets and 80 plus zombies for whoever wants to shoot.
I'll send out emails tomorrow with the exact location, but it sounds like most people already know where it's at

Right now I have to get to bed and get rid of this cold in time for this saturday. So hang tight I'll be in touch people

WOW, are you guys ready for this? It is going to be a real BLAST! Regarding concerns of shooting tannerite at night, looks like the canyon in long enough where we could put the object to be destroyed pretty far our. But, I agree safety will be the primary concern and I think we will need to inspect all items being set out to get shot or blown up in the nighttime portion of the shoot. I have 5 pumpkins and a pinata that will be good targets for the nighttime portion as they are harmless after they are blown up (the last time we shot pumpkins filled with tannerite the biggest pieces were only a couple inches wide)

Lastly, Please make sure to respond to the Poll if you plan on attending so Baron can PM you directions. I know the plan is for the organizers and any volunteers to help set up to arrive around 10 am. I am leaving San Francisco in a full car at 8am, so I will probably get there around 10:30. With the two buddies I am bringing I dont think I could convince them to get up earlier than 7am on a Saturday...

Safety Precaution - I think it is a great idea for everyone to get glow stick / chem light necklaces if you plan on shooting at night to help you standout in the darkness. You can get these at party stores, and maybe even places like walgreens (I would call ahead though..)

Lastly - Is there anyone in construction who could bring some of that stretchy neon tape to mark off shooting areas with little posts?

The chem light thing will work as long as nobody uses those to mark the targets at night.
I have strobes that I use. I would reccomend that option....if you don't want to be confused as a target.

Bronco,

SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS:

I went by a range nearby and got a copy of their waiver form you sign when renting guns there. I am going to copy the verbiage and list some general gun safety rules that you will have to initial you read.

Does anyone have an air horn we could use to call for a break in fire? if Not I have a pretty loud whistle we could use.

I'm thinking we will do it range style on the general shooting area where we call periodic target changes, tannerite set ups, etc. All guns will need to be on a bench or not in your hands with bolt/slide locked back, safety on, magazines out. We will have someone walk the line before each change to make sure all the guns are safe I plan on bringing some neon spraypaint to make a line everyone will need to stand behind before targets are changed, and then everyone will walk AROUND the tables and guns to change targets, not through them.

We need everyone to remain vigilant at all times during this shoot, so please keep your eyes on the other shooters and their guns. If someone chastises you for a safety issue, don't take it personal and get all butt-soar about it - we are just trying to make sure this is a 100% safe event and that nobody gets hurt. But like all sports, there is risk of injury or death anytime you are shooting or are around people shooting firearms, so please be aware of that! (liability statement)

And for the love of God, please use common sense at all times.

NO ALCOHOL WILL BE CONSUMED BEFORE OR DURING THIS EVENT PLEASE! After the event is over and you're camping, drink all you want, or after the gear is packed away, go for it. But while people are shooting guns, please refrain from consuming alcohol or any type of drug/narcotics. I think we can all agree that in a situation where you have 50 people shooting guns, we would all be more comfortable knowing everyone is 100% sober. This is another one of those liability statements. If we catch you drinking or anything like that, you will be asked to leave the immediate area.

I'm sure none of you guys drink while you shoot, just throwing it out there.

I dont think we have enough time to order them at this point, they would have to be available through brick and mortar stores. I already have 10 of the Green light stick for me and two buddys. Was planning on putting one on the front of us, and one on the back.

I'm going to print out some Zombie Portrait shots as well for backup targets. I was thinking something like this taking up a full sheet of 8.5x11. Anyone know how much color photocopies go for each? Dont want to use all of my color ink on them, could always photo copy them in black and white here at work.

I went to Staples and had them print up some zombie pics i got from the net, they are 17x23", i had 10 made and it cost me $15. Im sure if you wanted smaller targets they are much cheaper, B&W is the most inexpensive.

Tango, you got the image from those targets still? If so post them so we can print some out as well. I have only been able to find a couple images that were large enough to print our right and were headshots (portraits) for realistic target sizing. Attach them to your post.

Here ya go!

This one is only good for 8x11 prints, its a small file.

Both of these are good up to 17x23, maybe even a little bigger. You will lose some resolution, but at the distance we will be shooting, you wont know the diffrence. Dont ask, i got a thing for Nazi zombies, lol.

Sorry, I can't do that. A glow stick makes a brilliant colored cloud when set on top of a charge. Blue is the color for Tannerite targets. Don't shoot at any other color. OK? I guess we could discuss this on the line. So everyone knows the line is clear and this is a target. Anyone have a PA system or megaphone? This would be very handy.
Is someone going to mark lanes or is everyone going to shoot everyone else's target? Caution tape and nails may be better than paint.
(just a thought)
Is this a rocky canyon? Should I bring my helmet for ricochets? With 50 people shooting 100 rnds, That's a lot of ammo. I'd hate to see this end up like the first scene in Ghost Ship....

Ok I got the knock downs finished + a nice metal gong that is made of 1/4" metal from a very heavy duty fire extinguisher.

TommyG,

Is that a Michael Jackson Zombie in on the back left? I would love to put some holes in his reanimated corpse. Never have I seen a child molester celebrated at death like this guy before.

The stands/targets look great, way to step it up a notch!

Diginit,

We are going to use flexible construction marking tape to outline shooting areas, and neon spray paint as well. But I think some of this stuff will become clear when we get down there (regarding shooting other people's targets. If people want to do that, then let's do it.)

I'll be heading out from San Leandro tomorrow, are the East Bay guys still talking about caravanning down? Lemme know.

BTW, I will be bringing some non-zombie related steel targets as well. Falling plates, swingers and maybe (if I get it done tonight) an eight plate dueling tree.
