I sent in my C&R licence application, and sent a copy to Sacramento County sheriff's office. I got the CLEO copy back today with a sticky note attached to it saying MAIL TO-----> pointing to the address on the back for the ATF office..
This must be something they dont handle very often.. LOL ![]() I am sending it back with a letter...

That's funny.
I sent mine to Rancho PD a couple weeks ago (they contract out with the S/O), and haven't heard anything back from them. Just curious - who did you address it to? I ATTN'd mine to the Chief, so maybe he knows how to read. |

As mentioned by jamesob, you don't need to send it back to them. You fully complied with law by mailing it to them. Forget about it and start waiting for your C&R FFL to show up. You get zero extra credit points for any additional interaction with local law enforcement.

Its your job to handle it. It is also up to you what to do with it. Some agencies just file them away some don't. You want me to do your job for you?

Dear ATF, You might want to send an agent to Sacramento County to explain federal regulations to them. According to this post-it-note, they have no idea how to conform to federal firearms regulations. ![]() P.S. Aren't cops supposed to know what the laws are, at the very least? ![]() ![]() Hilarious!!! |

Thats not accurate. If one is taking the time and effort to obtain the license why would you not ascertain that all the required documentation is 100% in order? A sticky note is hardly verification. His letter was the right thing to do.

With large departments you could very easily send it to the wrong address where they DON'T deal with such things. For example, LASD has over 50 mailing addresses just for the courthouses they serve, 20+ patrol stations, and who knows how many admin locations. Very easy to send to the wrong location and get it sent back.

Verification is not required. The law says you are required to have "sent" the application to your CLEO. On the application your are only required to initial that you "sent" a copy to your CLEO.

LASO did almost the same thing to me. They called and said I mistakingly sent it to them and I need to send it to BATF, but not to worry, they sent it for me!

I sent mine with no cover letter. It says right on the form "INFORMATION FOR THE CHIEF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER", so hopefully they made sure the person who opens the mail is able to read!!
Actually if they sent it back to me I would just file it and hope I can find it when someone asks about it. |
