Tetra gun grease.
![]() # Widest operating temperature range -100°F to 750°F # Bonds to metals; smoothes and protects # Reduces friction # Quick to apply, easy to use # Low Odor # Doesn't attract fouling # Won’t migrate Excellent for use on rifle bolts, sears, locking lugs and semi-auto slide/rails. Apply light coating to metal surface. Buff dry for a debris-repelling, “glass-smooth” surface.

For Large bolts such as Fals, I use some old school LSA (but not for storage), it was something like $5 for quart, but stinky but it works.
For low tolerance bolts (AR), I use Militech, it works great so long as you bake it beforehand per directions, cleaning is ridiculously easy, carbon does not build up in the firing pin chamber, and carbon literally just wipes off. I know some people complain about Militech oil when they use supressors, but thats never going to happen in California so it does not bother me. |

It is basically Miltec with out having to pay the price, buy a quart at your local auto parts store and last you forever.....I buy a small plastic injection bottle and I use that to lube my guns...

I use Synthetic motor oil 5-30 I soak a small lint free cloth and put it in a small baggie and keep it in my A2 butt stock or in the grip of my carbine. Always handy for wiping the bolt down in the field applies a nice light coat and cleans off any debris or GP residue. At home I use CLP I get the big cans at Wal-Mart for the price of the small ones from the gun shop.

Gun butter. I get it from MSTN.
It stays where I put it and doesn't burn off; the bolt stays wet after hundreds of rounds. I hardly ever clean my BCG (twice since I've owned it, including cleaning it before the first time shooting it). Recently got back from a 4 day rifle class at Front Sight. Temps. in the upper 90˚'s, lots of dust and 35-40 mph wind on days 3 and 4. Went through over 500 rounds and never reapplied lube after the start of the first day and had zero malfunctions, except those I deliberately set up to practice clearing them.

The best BCG Lube............. The one that you brought with you.
At one time or another I've used just about everything and anything to lube the BCG. CLP, Miltec, dipstick motor oil, ATF, cooking oil, etc.. It ALL worked at the time. In a pinch, a lot of things can work. Given a choice, I run my own lube cocktail.

SAE 10W30.
I used a empty water bottle to apply it. Take a nail and put a small hole into the cap, free oil dropper. Last edited by Someoneelseok; 11-03-2009 at 2:26 PM. |

General cleaner and good lube for all my guns.
Mobile 1 + B12 Chemtool + Kerosene. 2 parts of oil with 1 part each of the others. I have altered formula depending on how dirty my stuff gets. High volume shooters like me will save lots of bucks. Keep brake cleaner for the dirty AR BCG's that really get crapped up. ****love that DI****

Just gave up on BreakFree CLP which I had used for close to 8 years. With DI AR-15's, vaporized teflon caused by the DI blowback into the chamber and down the barrel has been identified as a health hazard (makes sense given the Dupont warnings of teflon pans getting too hot and emitting a noxious gas). Also, gummy teflon down a barrel has some Benchrest guys avoiding it as well.
The other one that was removed from my bench was Militec-1. While it is a stellar lube, it is a rust magnet. Do a Google search and you'll find a number of folks that have run rust tests and found the Militec did extremely poorly. I recently was provided a sample of Weapons Shield CLP and have to say, I think I've found the perfect lube. I was extremely skeptical at first but started using it on a couple of machined parts and noticed a reduction in wear. I also did a make shift rust test and it passed with flying colors (better than BreakFree which surprised me). Just last month I bought a big bottle of it and have used it on darn near everything! No PTFE to vaporize or gum up the bore, no solvents but still does a stellar job cleaning, and probably up there with EEZOX as far as being a rust preventative. I highly recommend it. Just email the founder of the company for a free sample and try it yourself. It is now my go to lube. gcfennell at steelshieldtech.com (replace at with @).

.It's my impression, and I could be wrong, but I thought Break Free quit using teflon power several years ago...in other words, there's no more white stuff in the bottom of the bottle. -hanko

There is no silver bullet, and every attempt to "Solve" this problem has always resulted in some weird toxic concoction, BreakFree actually changed their formula to be non-toxic - Hence the bickering of past users. Chemical engineers are severely limited with Non-Toxic chemicals to produce a Universal type of lube, Cancer is enough of a problem as it is in out society, I would rather play it safe and use stuff that wont make me infertile because I was too lazy to use a heavy grease for long term storage and to rash to clean with a quality solvent. It really all pans out to specific use, (within a civilian capacity), military planners have to simplify logistics- Hence CLP, but the standard solvent and general gun oil is better if performed (with dry patches) within separate sequences. Everyone has their miracle wonder snake oil, given different and unique circumstances. To each their own |
