Hi everyone. I recently got my 03 FFL and was looking for a reasonably priced SKS. I looked on Samco Global site and noticed that they had them for around $300.00 marked with the NO SALES TO CALIFORNIA disclaimer.
I assumed that it was the grenade launcher that was keeping them from shipping it so EMailed and asked them if I could pay them extra to put on a CA legal muzzle brake and send it to me. They stated no. I them asked if I could pay for it and have it shipped to another FFL, again they said no. This dosen't seem like very good customer service to me but maybe they don't care. I guess my question is should I not deal with Samco in the future or is this a standard thing I'm going to encounter in the C&R world? Or should I just arrange for a middleman transfer (with the launcher removed) with one of the kind FFL's on this board? -Greg |

I bought a K31 off of them. Their customer service was ...acceptable.
You'll find that virtually no FFL will jump through any hoops for you because you are in california. our gun laws are like a minefield to them, and they simply do not want to any chances. Modifying a C&R SKS by removing it's grenade launcher and installing a muzzle brake, by my interpretation of the laws, takes the gun out of C&R status. You would have to have a friend that has a license in a free state and have it shipped to him. He would then have to modify the weapon, and have it shipped to your local FFL01. The FFL01 would then DROS the non-C&R SKS to you. If you really want an SKS, look for a model that does not come with a grenade launcher. Or Take a road trip to AZ or NV, look for non-GL models. Or buy a GL model in a free state, modify it there, and ship it to your local FFL01 Or look on the Private Sales forum. Last edited by Someoneelseok; 11-03-2009 at 2:51 PM. |

There's a BIG SHOW coming up in Reno. They'll have SKS there. You should go at least once in your lifetime.
The Big Show comes twice a year. Take copies of your C & R and go visit. Only take as much cash as you want to spend or loose. |

Yuog SKS's are C&R by federal standards but not by California state laws. For a rifle to qualify in California 1) it must be on the federal C&R list and or 2) be over 50 years in age. the Yugos also have the "evil grenade laucher" to throw out another speedbump for you LOL

To qualify for transfer in California without going through a California licensed dealer a firearm must be a long gun and C&R by Federal standards and at least 50 years old. If a C&R firearm does not meet all three of those qualifications then it is still a C&R firearm in California. But you are required to have it transfered through a California licensed dealer if the transfer is happening in California. Just because California requires some C&R firearms to be transfered through a California licensed dealer does not mean that those C&R firearm aren't C&R in California.
