Default Sykes goes well... but...

Places like Manteca PD, ( which also collects a fee for the qual ) require that you "qualify" with them on a year to year basis, you cannot even apply for a CCW until the you attend one of their qual shoots. Only offered 2x a year and if you cannot make the requal you lose your CCW. Also you are required to have a Physical, 3 letters of character reference, and formal CCW training...

Would Sykes make it so that having these pre-reqs are no longer needed or limited?

Sykes would make the analysis of the difficulty of getting a carry permit analogous to parade permits. It's not reasonable to require a class only offered semi-annually. It might be reasonable to require a class offered monthly.

Remember that today the standard is whatever LEA wants it to be. After Sykes, it's analyzed under a standard used for the permitting of constitutional conduct.

Do they require a physical or a psych? They can require the psych, but I don't think they can require a physical. Of course, if you want to argue with them, you won't get your permit...that's just one of many problems w/ may issue.

They require a physical ... not a psych evaluation.

Dr asked what are you here for... I said a routine physical for a CCW permit for Manteca PD. Asked if I was a officer and I replied no, it is required for the application process. He just shrugged and went on with the exam.

Been denied with Manteca PD and appealed denied again, applied with the SJ Co Sheriff and denied and appealed and denied...

Have not been able to reapply with the new Manteca PD Chief, the qual days have always fallen on a day where ive been out of town for training this last year...

Here is to hope for Sept.

Yeah, they can't require a physical, but like I said, are you really going to complain about it?

Can't you apply at the Co. level? I can't tell you the specific requirements that San Joaquin Co. has But I know a friend who has a CCW issued from the Co. and he said it wasn't a bad process.

What was the reason for denial, if you don't mind me asking?
