Default USMC T.A. and gunsmithing?

Does anyone know enough about the Marine tuition assistance program to know if you could use it for gun smithing classes while still on active duty, and if you could, are there any good schools around the San Diego or Orange County area that offer gun smithing?

The school up north is in Santa Rosa, Id call them up and ask them.

Or rip by the MCRD armory, which is on Edson and ask a gunner(CWO). Im sure the Marines up there could point you in the right direction.

tuition assistance can pretty much be used for whatever school program you want, as long as the degree you're working towards is higher than your current education level.

So, if you've only completed a high school diploma, then you can pretty much enroll in any associates (junior/community college) or bachelors program. Can be in whatever program you want.

The current limit is set to $250 per credit, at a limit of 6 credits per semester, with a total annual limit or $4500. That is plenty to cover 99% of community colleges and most accredited online institutions. Any extra tuition costs you have to pay out of pocket. But theres also state/federal grants via FAFSA that'll help cover any leftover costs if you qualify. The only part I find a little dissapointing is that if you don't use all 1250 for a semester, than you can't use that towards the next semester. You essentially missed out on free education money.

Regardless, before you can start getting T.A you have to go to a College 101 course thats given by the JEC (joint education center). I'm assuming you're on Pendleton, so theres one by mainside thats next to 9th Comm. Or if you're stationed near Camp Horno theres another JEC up there, but don't really know where it is.
Sorry can't help out with gunsmithing schools, although that's definitely something i'd like to do on the side.
Good luck

Wait, which school is in Santa Rosa? I'm near there and thinking about the same thing 'cept I'm in the reserves...
