No.
You want a clear or white plastic tube to extend to the muzzle.
That will block the mirage without blocking the light.

Do those 5 screws basically pinch the reciever around the straight shank of the barrel?

Default Savage 10FP

Bringing this thread back from page 2 (How did we let that happen?). New pic of my Savage 10FP with new FM Optics 4-14X44 FFP scope and home-brewed burlap micarta cheek riser:

The cheek piece will probably look a bit more at home once the rifle gets painted FDE. The burlap micarta (Burlap+Epoxy resin) came out looking a bit rough, but feels great. Feels more like wood than plastic.

Black and white "Art" version, LOL. This is how dogs see the rifle:

Finally got the Novekse uppers I've been scraping and scrounging for... here is my precision "family"! Will post range results after I make it out to the range.

Eventually want to sell/trade off the Leupold for an S&B so the siblings don't fight over who has better glasses.

Specs:
AR-10 with Noveske N6 upper, Noveske N6 lower, S&B PMII 5-25x56 scope, LaRue QD mount, PRS stock, Ergo grip, Geissele trigger
AR-15 with Noveske 18" SPR barrel, VIS-3 upper, Noveske N4 lower, Leupold 3.5-10x40 scope, Burris rings, PRS stock, MIAD grip, McCormick trigger

P.S. Now that I've paid an arm and a leg finishing these two projects, I fully expect prices on Noveske stuff to go down significantly... it's Murphy's Law! haha

Kind of off topic, But I got a rem 700 coming in. I was wondering what is a good ammo stock cheek pad? I've seen pictures of them...but I just need a good site to purchase from.

I'm also going to need help on rings/base/ and scope...but I'll post that in the optics section.

I went with a Vector optics FFP 10x40x56.

I didn't even consider one until I saw Tom Miller with some of his EDM Arms guns sporting them. I asked what he thought and he said they will do the same job a a high end leupold for a fraction of the price. I figured if a long range shooter that has the same EDM .308 I have why not get the same scope LOL.

heres a pic of the .308 windrunner I have, don't laugh the wifey made me pose LOL.

With that setup I can shoot under 3 inches at 600 yards all day long, Im happy with that.

I would like to get into the U.S Optics market but I haven't taken either rifles out past 600 yards. And so I don't feel the need to spend 3,000 dollars on a scope if I'm not shooting competively

I think the biggest concern with a scope like that is the field-of-view.
When you shoot multiple targets, you are going to want more field-of-view to make finding the target easier.

There will also be times when the mirage will kill you at 10x, but lower power would have worked.

How often do you find yourself much past 20x?

I acutally go out past 20 all the time, once I'm on target I like to zoom in a bit so I get tight consistant groups.

Never had a problem with mirage.

I've had small power scopes and couldn't stand em 3,4,5 power just didn't do the trick for what I do. At the scopes lowest settings I'm seeing what others are seeing at maximum power on lower power scopes. With the gun on the bag and the rear monopod I can get a string .3moa groups with the EDM .308 all day long without straining my eye.

I don't belong to a gun club nor do I do the "enguage as many targets as you can at known distances" thing.

Now if I were to join a club or go the whole route of enguaging multiple targets ASAP then I will get a scope with less power. I mean these scopes didn't set me back an arm or a leg so I won't be out much money when I go with a 5 power down the road on my next build, which will have a 5x25x56,or 62.

Thanks but no, I'm not painting it. I got the stainless version on purpose. I'm not out on a fantasy recon mission so it's not going to matter if I give off my position. My goal was to build something classy with some shine. The whole all-black tacticool rifle is great, but everyone (including myself at one point) and their mom has one.

I had a regular black FV in the past but sold it.

Been there, done that...

I agree, leave it. The stainless contrast looks great.
