Seriously!

Maybe I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that AP=Armor Piercing, and that is illegal here.

Please take these illegal activities elsewhere as they give calguns and calgunners a bad name.

Unless you are a leo troll? Lets see...new guy, check. blatantly asking to engage in illegal activities with calgunners, check. hmmm?

If i am incorrect in assuming that AP= armor piercing, then I most humbly apologize. If i am incorrect in assuming that the sale, purchase, and possesion of the above mentioned item is indeed illegal, then again, my most humble apologies.

But I do not think that I am wrong...

Armor piercing ammunition is illegal in California. It may be legal in other states, but not here. I suggest you give up the quest before you find yourself in deep kimchee.

There really is no elaboration. The purchase, sale, and/or possesion of armor piercing ammo is illegal. It has been for some time. There is about a gazillion things that would come up with a simple google query or search here at calguns. At the top of each page here there is an admonition to 'read the rules before posting'. I'm pretty sure that it is mentioned there too. Anyway, since you seem to be asking genuinely, this would cover any/all centerfire rifle ammo and 9mm handgun ammo. I am not certain if other handgun calibers are banned outright as well...or just not available anywhere anyway.

I am going to take a wild stab and guess that you are either just getting into the 'gun thing' or are an out of state .mil stationed down south and may not know all of the intricacies of CA firearms law. Trust me, I am no expert. But I have found a powerful resource here at calguns and encourage you to avail yourself of the same and become a regular here as well.

For real!!??!!

Do you have a pc or something to substantiate? Holy cow! I hope you are right. This would change the 'plan'. I have always heard that it was a big-time no go.

Experts, please chime in.

I may be wrong, but isn't the .308 already armor piercing? Same with other larger calibers. I think that guy is right that it only applies to pistols. Even if a .308 lead round wont pierce armor, if you put in a steel bullet, it sure as hell would. and that would be legal.

AP and steel core are 2 different things.

I always thought AP rifle ammo was ok but is an "enhancer" if used during the comission of a crime.

Here is what I found on DoJ

http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/Cfl2007.pdf

Quote:
Armor-Piercing Bullets
It is unlawful for any person to manufacture, sell, or knowingly possess or transport handgun
ammunition designed primarily to penetrate metal or armor. (Penal Code 12320, 12321.)
Handgun ammunition means ammunition principally for use in pistols, revolvers, and other
firearms capable of being concealed upon the person, as defined in subdivision (a) of section 12001,
notwithstanding that the ammunition may also be used in some rifles. (Penal Code 12323(a).)
Handgun ammunition designed primarily to penetrate metal or armor means any ammunition,
except a shotgun shell or ammunition primarily designed for use in rifles, that is designed primarily
to penetrate a body vest or body shield. (Penal Code 12323(b).)
Body vest or shield means any bullet-resistant material intended to provide ballistic and trauma
protection for the wearer or holder. (Penal Code 12323(c).)

Exceptions
The prohibition against possessing, manufacturing, etc., armor piercing ammunition does
not apply to the following (Penal Code 12322):
• Specified members of the military while on duty and engaged within the scope of
their duties.
• Any police agency or forensic laboratory.
• Persons who hold valid permits issued pursuant to Penal Code section 12305.
• The possession of handgun ammunition designed primarily to penetrate metal or
armor by a person who found the ammunition, if he or she is not prohibited from
possessing firearms or ammunition pursuant to section 12021, 12021.1 or paragraph
(1) of subdivision (b) of section 12316 of this code or section 8100 or 8103 of the
Welfare and Institutions Code and is transporting the ammunition to a law
enforcement agency for disposition according to law.

Default AP ammo

I may be wrong but in the PC any ammo that will defeat body armor is illegal in Ca. that can be used in a handgun, or in a caliber a handgun has been made. Since Contenders come in rifle calibers up to 45-70 and ar and ak pistols are in rifle calibers anything but .22 and shotgun rounds are not legal. If someone is selling steel core ammo they should be made aware of this, this is just my .02 worth and not legal advice.
