Early February I got a letter for another 3 of the firearms I wanted to register. A real trickle, but that means a bit more safe space for me in my NV home.

Did anyone catch that, "safe space"?

Submitted June 30th.
Received correction letters a week ago.
They wanted the "Second Handgrip" for an AK pistol.
They added a missing manufacturer.
They also wanted an over all measurement I haven't had time to do but I wrote them a note "The rifle is in its smallest configuration over 36" 16" barrel and rifle length buffer tube." I haven't had time to get it out and take a picture.
No email regarding my AR pistol tho... I'm a little worried, it was purchased as a single shot and I submitted photos with 0 round mag. (mag block).
But being bullet button is no longer fixed now... I did put a juggernaut kit on it when they changed the laws.

Re do it...I had to redo several of mine because I checked caliber as 5.56 and the lowers were marked "multi".

Just got letter confirming three of my six registrations.

Congrats! And the pile of remaining applications has shrunk by one, which is good news for those who are still waiting on action from CA-DoJ.

At the present rate, mine won’t be approved until the day I leave CA for good.

I note that I am required to "notify the Department in writing whenever you dispose/relinquish your registered assault weapon(s)."

I know they can't be inherited per se (except maybe via joint registration), but how am I supposed to notify the Department when I die? Seems like that might be relinquishing whatever my rights to the weapon might be. Am I going to get in trouble for dying without giving the Department notice?

Absolutely! Once you have registered your AWs, CA-DoJ owns you. Hotel California - you can check in but you can never leave...

I don't know if the information will be useful to anyone, but if the registration number I received is an accurate indicator of the number of weapons processed (and I don't know if it is or not), the number suggests that around 175,000 weapons have been processed. Of course, it may be more if DOJ gives single registration numbers for multiple weapons submitted as one transaction (I seem to recall that they may).

i submitted in june as well. (Still waiting for approval) they asked that I check-off "second hand grip" on my AR pistol. I think that the purpose of this is to allow for AW registration, because without a place to set a second hand, the pistol would be considered a 'handgun', since it would be designed to be fired with 1 hand. the second hand grip/ hand rest (even a shroud on which to place your hand) means that it's been designed to be fired with two hands.

this is speculative, but based in my understanding of how CA defines these items within the legalese.

Random but related questions.... If a family member is moving to Ca, but hasn't made their rifle compliant, can they separate the lower and upper and bring them? That way they can pay/make use-able and legal when they are able and settled?

Random question but semi-related....

A friend is moving to CA from out of state. He has a couple rifles he wants to bring but hasn't made them featureless yet. Can he simply separate the upper and lowers and bring with him until he has the means and time to make featureless?

I just got my letter last week for the two I was waiting for. They also included one of my other guns on this current registration that I received a letter for 4 months ago. So I guess that gun is double registered lol. The registrations were submitted one day apart (single gun, and the two that I was waiting for on the second registration.

It’s not double registered you just get an up to date letter with everything

Not that it is designed, just that you could. It is still a handgun.

ahh yes I think I must have been thinking of rifles an "designed to be shouldered". my brain must be broken today.

also, I found this definition in the CA law from 2005
"A handgun is any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person that has a barrel length of less than 16 inches."

can AR pistols be concealed upon a person?

Sure can, pretty surprising actually.

Not an AR but...

Well my letter arrived today.

I registered 2 AR pattern rifles. Both of my online applications needed clarifications/corrections. In my defense, I did them at 10:00 PM on the last day. LOL

Living on the edge, eh? Regardless, you have your letter and that is one less in the Pending stack for those remaining in In Progress purgatory.

Sent mine in on last day of registration. Received letter on 3/5/2019 on all submissions. Had an incomplete application on all three, forgot the pistol grip box. One had a second issue with caliber. All three still show "In Progress" in CFARS.

Finally received my letter. It's dated February 28th but says my registration was completed on the 27th.

06/30/2018 - Submitted a single registration for one M4gery and a standard AKM
02/19/2019 - Received the "California Firearms Application Reporting System (CFARS) Submission Confirmation Notice" emails for both rifles (7 and 8 am - working early eh?)
03/08/2019 - Received the letter in the mail with both rifles listed

I ran into no problems with the process other than the CA DOJ working at a glacial pace. I half expected a request for additional pictures of the muzzle device on the M4gery to prove it was permanently attached but I didn't end up getting one. It has a BCM M4 14.5" upper with their A2X birdcage pinned and welded from the factory to bring it over 16".

No more letters for me - everything else I have is featureless. Hopefully everyone still waiting will be getting their letters soon.

My letter was dated the same.

What is more odd is I got confirmation on my last couple of BBRAW a week prior and received a letter with only 3 of the 8 that’s been confirmed. The other 5 been confirm thru e-mail, but not on the letter.

Did they make a mistake? Anybody else on the same boat?

I registered some with pinned/welded muzzle devices and they never asked

Yes.

06/2018 - Submitted
02/2019 - 8 of 9 rec'd confirmation email. 1 of 9 request for additional pic.
03/2019 - All still "in progress" - no letter for the 8 of 9 without errors, no further communication on the 1 of 9 that I updated/corrected.
