Donít modify except to make it ďfitĒ better. Any trigger jobs that decrease the pull weight can get you in trouble according to my LEO friends. You can modify the trigger position on a gun to make it more ergonomic if you have shorter fingers.

Default CCW Permit Class

Just wanted to recommend Valley Firearms Training to anyone looking for a good CCW class. They offer an entry level course and advanced for those who already have a CCW. Dennis is very knowledable and they rent out Laguna Seca gun range to qualify which is a much better set up than going to Markley's in Watsonville.

Default Monterey *** TIME TO APPLY!!! (w/caveat) ***

Iím told they are all caught up. If youíre still waiting give them a call.
Estimated livescan to issue is inside a month I think. The longest holdup is awaiting responses from references or other agencies.
Donít be afraid to call if youíve been waiting longer than a few weeks from when you did your livescan

I see advice and comments here and even in other threads about not modifying CCW guns. In my case i replaced the plastic guide rod on my Ruger LC9 to a stainless steel one. Is that going to be an issue?

My Neices husband has an DEM flat faced trigger on his G43. Nothing was said to him about it.

Gave them a call today - my application was in the previous investigator's stack. I was told my references should now be contacted within

Thanks for the updates Tripper!

They only care if you change the performance of the gun. You should be ok if the mods are for ergonomics only. Its not that it's illegal, but an ADA in a criminal trial, or a plaintiff attorney in a civil case might use that as juice against you.

Has anyone wondered why the California medical cannabis cards look so much nicer than our CCW cards?

Yeah, i get your point. The CCW of California is on plain paper. The Arizona CCW is even better since it is a real ID style card.

I hear you, but I think a lot more at stake with CCW permits. Itís not like it would be very difficult to forge one. I think itís far more important to have more secure CCW cards. Itís just more evidence that our state really doesnít care about anything except for money. They put on a show for the liberal masses, but when it comes down to it, all they really care about is the money.

I don't think the card matters much, what matters is you had a valid CCW issued at the time of a CCW shooting- you're going downtown until they verify all things anyway.

I don't worry about that situation. I worry more about the possibility of being pulled over in State and showing a hokey looking card to an officer who may have never seen one, or even worse, when out of state in a state that has reciprocity, but the officer is used to seeing a more official looking card.

They donít need to go downtown. All they need to do is run the serial on the gun, the return says itís a ccw gun or not

Maybe. I still think you (or me or whoever) are still going downtown while things get sorted. A homicide occurred- justifiable or otherwise...

Recently visited some family and friends out in Bakersfield for a party. Was having some interesting conversations and one of them was the amount of handguns allowed on their permit. I believe max is 10.

I wish Monterey County allowed more than 3. Anybody know how we can get the Sherriff to increase the limit?

A reliable source informs me that Monterey SO CCWers waiting for a renewal should be getting calls on Monday or Tuesday.

New apps are still in process.

I listed five friends, one of who is a police officer, but I donít think that had any great impact. Theyíre just looking for regular citizens that can attest to your character.

The SO lady kind of apologized to me for the paper card when she gave it to me, suggesting that I fold it with the backside out to preserve the text.

She also told me that the MCSO hopes to move to plastic cards, like a credit card format, and is trying to get that in place by next year.

I keep my original at home. I scanned it and shrunk it so I could cut it in half and then laminate it back to front. Now itís about the size of my drivers license. Works good. I keep a paper copy printed on similar weight card stock above my visor along with my registration and proof of insurance. Iím thinking of keeping a copy of my drivers license there too so I donít have to reach back for it when asked.

Those are great ideas, thanks. It never occurred to me to make a copy, but as long as you have the original it shouldnít matter. Thanks again.

I suspect having the original isn't a big deal. That the Sheriff has you listed- is.

If you're unlucky like me, 6 months and counting. My references haven't been contacted yet...Apparently the CCW investigator that interviewed me left the department soon after and my application is floating around somewhere that isn't on the current investigator's desk. I've called a few times now but all I get is a 3-4 week estimate.

I suppose I'll go for call number four this week. I hope you have better luck than I'm having so far - it seems that others are at least!
