Rossi R92's are making a come back

I read on a couple forums that Braztech has already sent out new stock. They're only making 20" SS round barrels for now, .357 and 44. GB has a few listed, price should be 504.00 + or - and it looks like sellers are trying to get a premium for them. Ymmv

One popped up on davidsons a week or so ago and was sold before I could grab it. I hope they show up for reasonable prices again!

Im still kicking myself for not buying when they were everywhere, always put it off.

So, my ( limited ) understanding was that the shortage was the result of Taurus consolidating manufacturing for these rifles.

Curious about the quality of these new ones...

Me too, look what happened when Marlin moved. The Rossi's where already a little iffy. I read that they got rid of the hammer safety and the guns msrp was less than the last production.

Not that I know of. I read they just deleted the hammer safety but they still have that silly cheap looking bolt safety.

I was able to snag two of blued 16" .357 3.5 years ago. I purchased the second one right after my son nearly absconded with the first one. I purchased the second, coincidentally, on the occasion of his 25th birthday. He still compliments that little carbine (and plinks with it in the Rockies where he is currently working).

While I am always interested in another 16" .357, I'd also like to acquire a 20" stainless .44. Thanks for the heads up!

I got real lucky and scored a 16 inch puma, pre Taurus, no safety a few months ago. Cheap too. I was stoked.

I had no idea they were hard to come by. I bought mine (357, blued, round barrel) 2 or 3 years ago. I've toyed with the idea of getting a Winchester '73 and selling the Rossi, but the darn thing shoots and functions so well, I can't rationalize it. It's a great little rifle.

I have a .45 Colt pre-safety and a .44 which I picked up when Big 5 was closing them out. Both blued 20-inch barrels They are fun little guns. I just ignore the little safety switch on the bolt. I usually run .44 SPL level loads in magnum cases in the .44 and standard .45 Colt loads in the .45. I have had no problems with either one. I like using the coated bullets in them, usually a RNFP or TC style for smooth feeding, though I haven't had any issues with SWC.

I'm interested in getting a 16" barrel one in 357 mag. The extra 4" barrel length makes it noticeably longer and doesn't do much for velocity with pistol calibers.

I'll settle for a 44 mag or 45 Colt if a must.

Had a blue 20" Rossi '92 in .357 and really liked it. It looked great and was very well made. Traded it for a nice used Winchester '94 in .30-30 which was what I really wanted after they quit making them in '06.

I saw one in discount gun mart in san diego for $525 in .45 colt w 20” barrel. Wasnt sure if that was a good price or no for it. It was new

I overpaid for a 16inch .357 when they just weren't around a couple years ago. $600 used. It was worth every penny. Most fun rifle I own. Lucky mine eats any ammo .38 or .357, no hiccups. Though my thumb might be bloody after loading it a bunch.

I took mine apart and slicked up the action and also broke the sharp edges around the loading port. Makes a big difference.

And I keep it loaded by my bedside as my home defense gun. 16 inch is small enough to be maneuverable. 357 packs a punch.

I think I'd rather have a tacted out azzedup mossberg lever clone in .30-30 than a "Henry". Basically a 7.62x39 lever gun but the ammo is 4x more expensive.

Ya they were hard to find and I always wanted a rossi. Always heard they had their quirks, or ran flawless. Never found any in stock so i bought a Henry and man after 1 shooting trip I did not like it because of the tube fed and having to deal with that nonsense every time your out.

A good running R92 in .357/38 with the side loading gate is what i want.

Davidsons has them all listed in each caliber with the different color finishes. But all say "out of stock" as of right now...hope they are decent.

Good to hear that the R92 will be available again. I bought mine at Big 5 back in '13 right before the supply dried up, wish I had bought two of 'em. Definitely a favorite plinker of mine. The wife and I bicker about who gets to spend more time with it.

I'm a little iffy about the prospects of buying a new one knowing that the manufacturing facility is moving/consolidating/retooling (any of these). I want to wait a while after availability to see if any reports about reliability or accuracy start making the rounds on the web.

I don't understand why everyone has the 'hots' for a Rossi 92, or any lever for that matter, in 357 just so they can go plinking on the cheap. I do have a R92 SS 16" in 454 Casull that sits by the bedside, but if I want to go plinking on the cheap I have plenty of 22's.... IMHO...

Variety. I really enjoy plinking with .22's, but also enjoy shooting steel with PCC's and handguns.

As far as lever shooting goes, I think there's a degree of skill needed to stay on target with a lever for rapid follow up shots more so than there is for a semi auto or pump action .22.

I shoot a lot more .38 than I do .357 with my R92. I've got a .44mag lever that sees range time also.

I dont understand why someone would want a 454 lever by their bedside. The stainless will glare and give away your position and you don't get the satisfying sound of a bolt slamming home that scares intruders away without firing a shot. 🧐

Simply put - it is fun. I don't have one in .38/.357 but have one in .44 and one in .45. It is a lot of fun to plink at metal with a big, slow moving round that doesn't kick like a mule. That's why I load .44 mag to .44 spl level and my .45 to lower level loads. The same reason I enjoy shooting my M-1 Carbine. I reload for all of them and it keeps the price down. I have .45-70 and .300 Wthby if I want to get more of a kick out of shooting.

I don't understand why anyone has the hots for plinking with a 22 when you can go plinking on the cheap with a pellet gun.
