Out of curiosity, were there any issues with your application? I am trying to find the timeline for applications where there were no issues to get an idea of what I may be looking at time-wise.

Intentionally submitted applications close to the end when, hopefully the worst of the kinks had been worked out. Submitted applications 5/19. Received one 'application accepted' e-mail and two 'issues' that need addressing notifications. Did those that night got those accepted today 7/19.

Exactly two months from submitting application, to accepted application after one 'issue' resolved.

A gigantic thank you to cockedandglocked for helping us all out by spending all that time writing that short 'how to' novel from which so many of us benefitted! Pretty happy about that. That's a huge stressor off of my shoulders. I'm a shooter, not a collector. I want to be able to take these out and shoot 'em. GTG here!

Submitted application 5/19/18

Received three Submission Notices on 5/21, one on 7/9/18
Received no Submission Notice on one.

Approval letter dated 7/12, received today.

All straight forward long guns: AK shotgun, AK rifle, AR, Galil, Sig 556R.
No peep on the pistols submitted on the same application.
A bunch of AKs in the same application are also still "In Progress"

So they're not approving entire batches at once, they pick and choose from within each application.

4/1 Application submitted for 5 AR—15 style rifles
5/23 Received submission notification emails for 4 rifles. One additional rifle was kicked back. DOJ requested that I change Colt “LE 6920” to Colt “M4 Carbine.”
6/5 Received email submission notification for the kicked back rifle.
7/6 Letter mailed by DOJ. I received it a few days later.

4/15 application submitted for various rifles + 1x AR pistol
4/18 Receive first confirmation out of all submitted
6/18-7/5 Continue to correct minor issues, such as model name, caliber and descriptions
7/18 Registration letter received. What's interesting is from CFARS website they are still "In-Progress".

Where does it indicate on the CFARs website "In Progress"???

I don't see that anywhere on the page, after I log in. Thanks.

Was the AR pistol from 80% or a commercial build?

I submitted a few 80% pistols at about the same time as him, and they just got approved. Seems like their backlog is about 3 months right now for most of those.

I submitted mine June 26th and got an email today 7-25-2018, that stated DOJ had received my submission and it is being processed.

This is soo frustrating. DoJ must have some kind of random application assignment algorithm at work.

The ambiguity of that response is funny as well. Their website has labeled mine as in progress since I submitted. So is a recent email stating they are being processed, new info?

Giving us some real disposition data would be nice.

Yep, it's that way for everyone. Their system is only capable of displaying 2 things: "In progress" or "incomplete".

"Incomplete" is for apps that DOJ reviewed, found an error on, and they've unlocked it so you can fix it.

Every other app says "in progress" - even for people who received their approval letters months ago.

Yes, that is new info

If you get an email titled "(CFARS) Submission Confirmation Notice", and the message includes the sentence "You will be notified of the results via U.S. Mail" near the end, then it is DOJ's beating-around-the-bush way of telling you that the firearm was reviewed and approved.

They'll send you the letter in the mail once all of the firearms that you submitted in the same app are approved.

Yep, their website is useless. By sure to keep an eye on your email inbox - that's the only place you'll see any activity.

There is at least one more display type.

Rejected when the submitter asked the DOJ to cancel the registration. See http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...3&postcount=22

Off topic, thank you cockedandglocked for your registration guide thread. It helped me and I'm sure many others.

One month down. I haven't gotten anything past the email transaction receipt. Site still shows my (3) submissions as In Progress.

If I did my math right it should only be 2 more weeks.

Waiting 9 weeks. I checked CFARS again today and saw some “incomplete” notices that I fixed and resubmitted. They bombarded me with emails and gmail grated it like spam.

Submitted mine June 19th, and just got the submission confirmation notice today... Mine is pretty vanilla, too. I should be about the easiest one on the pile.

So it does seem pretty random. Definitely a hallmark of good system design.

I submitted 10 total; June 25th or so.
On Monday they accepted 2, and kicked 5 back.
3 of them still have had no movement for some reason....

Or, a sign of a totally random assignment process.... I am increasingly convinced of the absence of any rational assignment process. For absolute certain, first-in, first-out is not being followed.

Could anyone share the details of the emails they receive from CFARS for corrections etc? Wanting to make sure gmail doesn't just chuck it as spam.

Just log onto the CFARS website, click the CRIS link and then the My Issue Log under the My CFARS Account pane.

They definitely aren't processing them "first come, first serve" as they said they would. There also is no consistency whatsoever about what apps they put in the front of the line and which they push to the back, although some factors do seem to inevitably push some apps to the back of the line every time (especially if the mfgr wasn't in their list).

My best guess is that the apps are "looked at" pretty much immediately after they receive them (with either some software, or a human, or both) and quickly evaluated and sorted by some key metrics... Sort of like triage at the ER. Apps that, on the surface, appear fairly simple to process get flagged for fast processing, and apps that might involve some work get pushed to the back of the line. Inevitably, some apps that should've been marked one way got flagged a different way, which is why many simple apps still haven't been processed, while some complex ones got processed rather quickly.

At least, that's the way I picture their system "working" in my head. It makes sense, as far as efficiency is concerned, to handle "short before long".

For what it's worth, hardly anyone that submitted apps before April is still waiting. They seem to have processed all but the last 3 months of apps, for the most part, with maybe a handful of stragglers (which all seem to be ones where the mfgr wasn't in the list)

While I can't prove my theory, experience that has been shared on this site seems to confirm my theory:
1. DoJ Triage Crew come in at the start of the day and look at the (metaphorical) pile of applications that came in overnight.
2. While the Triage Crew are evaluating the selected applications from the night before, more applications come in.
3. The Triage Crew try to assess the new applications that came in per 2. above.
4. At some point, Triage Crew staffers get over-whelmed and just push the remainder of the applications into a pending or suspense status and then it is time to go home at the end of the day.

This is the only explanation I can think of that covers why some people with stupid simple applications get processed almost immediately, while others with the same type of application are waiting 120+ days.

Today, my stupid simple application (store-bought BBAW with manufacturer model number for CA-compliant firearm and the manufacturer was in the drop-down list) hit 90 days from submission. Crickets from DoJ. Application status is In Progress and no issues are listed in the Issue Log.

Well I submitted 3 rifles on the morning of June 30. I should be pretty much worse case scenario. I'll let you guys know when I get my stuff but to date all I have is an email for the transaction and my applications listed as in progress on the CFARS site. No issues listed. Nothing in my Spam filter best I can tell.

One data point:
filed on 5/1, approved 7/30 and received today.
AR15 rifle built from 80%.
