I think that as long as you remain in San Joaquin County there won't be a problem. But if you don't want to rely on mere speculation, make a quick call these people for a definitive answer: https://www.sjgov.org/sheriff/ccw.html

Default Got my email: approved

***UPDATE***
Received email today- CCW has been approved- take the class, make appt to submit certificate and pick up my card. Taking the class this weekend. Oh yes! Thank you Sheriff Moore!

01/29/18- received call from investigator asking if any changes on address, work, etc. He said my app was going to be moved up the chain and to look for a phone call/email for approval in 2-4 weeks? (I can't recall- I was so excited to finally get a phone call- lol) He said don't take the class until that phone call saying to do so. He also confirmed the 3 firearms on my application. (I am rethinking at only putting 2- not sure yet)

05/10/17 initial application, live scan submitted

recently had friend apply and it was stamped "not for security work" or something similar across the permit. their employment wasn't mentioned during the interview process from my understanding but they are employed in that field.

has anyone else had similar experience.?

I highly doubt that the applicants employment was not part of the interview. I know it was part of mine. It's also part of the application that must be filled out.

As far as I know, these permits are given out for self defense, not for security work. Not surprised they marked it up.

Sorry, what I should have said was, getting a CCW for the purposes of using it FOR security was not brought up, nor was it the intention of the applicant.

It's been 50 days since the last entry was made on this thread. What is happening? With California's gun controls getting more extreme you would think that there would be more chatter on this thread. Does anyone have any news on the status of the application process? What about the renewal process? Don't be shy. Speak up!

The renewal process is the same as your initial application except that you pay less and the approval is usually less than 30 days as mine was.

They raised the fee a few bucks. Looks like its down to 11 months from 1 year wait.

Does anyone have any information or experiences with HEIDA TRAINING in Ripon? My CCW is coming up for renewal soon and they are on the list of approved trainers/vendors by the SJC Sheriff's Office.

I liked Siver Creek. Would def recommend them. And will be going back when my renewal is due. The live fire wasn’t difficult for me. I’m not going to tell you excactly what they consist of. But it was basically shooting drills into a Silhouette target.

I am up for renewal again. My other times were renewed for two years. I heard they started renewing for one year. What are they renewing for now?

I recently did mine in March and I received 2 years. Didn't know they were doing 1 year renewals? I thought it was for initial approval for some citizens.

Sounds good. As far as I remember it was just the initial applicants. Renewals were 2 years, but who knows...

Anyone have any concrete info about Withrow for Sheriff, and what his stance is on CCW? His website has nothing about it on there.

Just answer all questions in the interview. TELL THE TRUTH. Don't leave anything out on your application. If you were arrested in the past it will come up whether you were convicted or not. If you were arrested but no charges filed that will come up also. Good luck. Just think. When it comes up for your time to renew you won't have to wait as long.

Thanks.

I’ve never been arrested nor been in trouble with the law my 37 years of life.

I guess just having common sense during the interview is required.

I spoke to him on Sunday May 6th at the Lodi Street Fair. He told me his plan for SJ county LTC is to hire a few retired LEOs that did LTC to run through the back log of applications. He said a year wait is way to long for these apps. I asked him about going to an all online system. He responded with he would love to go to this system but he needs to find the money in the budget. He shook my hand and off I went.

A few minutes later I passed a table for Central Valley Demorats. They were endorsing Pat Withrow for Sherriff. Research is needed. I am right now listening to an interview he gave on the radio. He says he made Moore flip on his CCW stance.

Is it odd that my interview appointment went straight to livescan with no interview? I’m kind of lost now that the sequence is out of order compared to others.

Should I be expecting an interview once my livescan comes back? Or are they skipping the interview portion for now?

Thanks for the info, that is great. He isn't standing out to me as super pro-CCW right now. I don't know...

Just a heads up i applied 1 month and a half ago and a background detective called me and was asking me for information. I asked him about them being backed up for a year and he told me they are caught up and you should expect 2-3 months wait. SO APPLY!!!!!!

Yes Withrow is a Democrat and Moore is a Republican if you can believe that.

Yes Withrow Challenged Moore in the last election and LTC was a fairly large issue that Withrow backed. He posted on this forum a few times as well. It really did force Moore’s hand plus other politcal pressures as well.

Pat has been pro ccw from day 1. Most of the deputies favors Pat.

For those that have received their permit recently, are they valid for one or two years from issue date?

Another random question. Can a CCW holder have their firearm in a locked container in their vehicle on school grounds? Eg. Construction company that does work on school property

That’s not true. You can have an unloaded handgun in a locked container or trunk and it’s legal on school property.

Quote:
a) This section shall be known, and may be cited, as the Gun-Free School Zone Act of 1995.

(b) Any person who possesses a firearm in a place that the person knows, or reasonably should know, is a school zone, as defined in paragraph (4) of subdivision (e), shall be punished as specified in subdivision (f).

(c) Subdivision (b) does not apply to the possession of a firearm under any of the following circumstances:

(1) Within a place of residence or place of business or on private property, if the place of residence, place of business, or private property is not part of the school grounds and the possession of the firearm is otherwise lawful.

(2) When the firearm is an unloaded pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed on the person and is in a locked container or within the locked trunk of a motor vehicle.

This section does not prohibit or limit the otherwise lawful transportation of any other firearm, other than a pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed on the person, in accordance with state law.
