Default Military 870

Trying to find out the value of this old shotgun that has been sitting around for ever...
The receiver is marked "property of US Navy" it's an 870 Wingmaster 12ga 2 3/4-3" I haven't measured the barrel, it looks maybe 20", has tube extension that doesn't go to the end of the barrel. Condition is fair. This thing is kinda old but shows great "patina".

Anyone know about these?
Thanks.

At my son's house in AZ. Pics will be when I can arrange them. It looks like a battle worn 870 with park finish...

Here's a couple pics of my Rem 870 Police Magnum which is very similar to the M870 I qualified with while in the Navy. I'd dearly love to have one marked "Property U. S. Navy."

It was scientifically proven on Pawn Stars that any amount of money, presented in the form of "One Hundred Dollar Bills" splayed out on a glass counter, is worth much more than the same amount of money in smaller bills, or in any other form.

To this day, mathematicians are still trying to figure that one out.

That is my definition of a fighting shotgun. No lasers, no gadgetry, and no plastic. Wood and steel, all business.

You may want to slow down showing pics of that shotgun. I don't believe the Government released any Navy issue 870s as surplus. They may still be looking for it.

Hey man, I resemble that comment. I bought the 590A1, haven't had time to shoot it yet. The 870 Police is still the Belle of the Ball though.

The Mossberg 500 system might win you over.....I think it has the edge over the 870. Although I do love an 870.

Lately, you are liable to get an out of spec chamber on a new 870, or a crappy pinned forend on a 500.

I am interested in pics of this Navy 870. My first thought was that it must have been "liberated" lol. Never seen a surplus one before.

Sorry for the hijack, but has someone measured the chamber to prove it's out of spec? I believe that part of the problems that have been observed in the last few years are also due to cheap materials used by some ammo manufacturers. Gun manufacturers aren't the only one cutting corners.

I am waiting for someone else to pipe up who actually has one. As someone else hinted earlier......we don't see these pop up, because the Navy probably has never surplused these guns out. Meaning it is probably stolen.
Stolen. You know.....stolen. That is gonna kill interest in this thing real quick.

The way PrOpRTeY is stamped looks fake to me. If that is how all.of them are stamped that is sad.

I know the exact value of it. It is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, however it is simply an old 870. It is the same 870 police model that most of us old guy started with. They were simply the only 870 Remington made, a Wingmaster. They had 20" Bead sight barrels and some had three shot extension and some had two shot extension, The one in this post has a two shot. They had plain hardwood stocks and that old waffle pad that was so hard we didn't need rams as we could break doors down with them. So, it is just and Old Wingmaster that someone Stamped Property of the US Navy. That seems strange as most would have been stamp Property of the US Government, but hey, it's the Navy. So anyone wanting an old Wingmaster offer him $250 as I am sure it is still working fine. But be prepared to put at least $120 in it for the Flex tab conversion kit as I can't tell from the Picture if it has been upgraded or not. But hey, some old Squid might pay more for it as a keep sake.

If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. If you can't take a shotgun, don't go.

I do believe the government released at least 1 Model 37 to an ffl specializing in C&R military shotguns. I bought the gun, basic walnut and parkerized. I called Ithaca and asked about the gun's origin by sn. Ithaca replied one or two dozen were shipped to the Baltimore navy yard in 1944. They also noted the navy had requested no markings on the guns other than an sn.

See above. If the navy did it with Ithacas, who's to say they didn't do it with 870's?
