Default FYI

Finally got around to creating account on the CFARS site today, will be submitting 2 rifle reg soon. I did not see this mentioned anywhere (or probably I missed it), but the account creation process does not send you a confirmation email. And its not very clear thst your user name is first two letters of first name and first 6 of your last name.

You successfully registered your mud? I am surprised it wasn't a checkbox "feature".

What's the current consensus on how many to reg at one time? Seems like you can do an unlimited(?) number of registrations per session for $15. Any benefits to doing smaller groups other than a huge time commitment?

Yes, I believe so. If you do many at once and have multiple kickbacks it seems to make the process last months. I did 4 first, then 6, then 8. That should cover it for me, I believe the slowest application to process equals the time you will wait because they do not process applications in groups well. Essentially, even if you have a few that would otherwise flow right through, they are prevented by the slowest application.

Also, I am doing all my AR's at one time and doing it last. AR's tend to be the least difficult for them. I did all my AK's in my first batch, total 8 weeks with a few kickbacks. Next the oddballs- the rare stuff, all clumped together.

I'm curious about this as well. One benefit I can see for registering separately is you will get 1 approval letter per firearm. So you can have just the letter for the firearm you are traveling with on you ( instead of a letter with info on all your RAWs). I would imagine de-registering one of the firearms, (for any reason) in the future would be much simpler.
But...... If you register one at a time and are opting for joint registration how does that work? Would the secondary registrant also have to register one at a time or can they do multiple. So if I have 2 RAWs to register am I looking at $30 for my reg and $30 for the spouse reg?

Actually I’m pretty sure that what you’ll get is a series of letters where each approval results in a letter with all previously approved RAWs and you last letter will contain them all.

Here is a sample of a successful DOJ BOF BBAW registration letter passed around showing the registered weapons.

The text below is the image data, base64 encoded. You'll need to convert it back to an image, which can be done online by pasting the text here:
https://www.base64decode.net/base64-image-decoder

Maybe someone can find someplace to post this. I don't know a secure dropbox.

Default Registration pictures

Anybody have some examples of the types of pics DOJ wants for registration? Maybe examples of pictures that were rejected as well?

Got my letter today. Website still shows in progress.

Seems like you could get away with just 2 photos of the entire gun from both sides. Cropping into it would get you all the necessary variants.

What? You realize for most people the state already knows they have the gun even if they don’t register.

Maybe it's time to log the true client IPs to Geo Locate trolls?

Q: For those of you that got your applications kicked back, how did they contact you? Email/Phone/USPS/CFARs website?

I submitted my application and my wifes (JOINT Reg) on the same day for 1 pistol, 1 rifle, and one shotgun on 1/26/2018

Both our applications show as being "IN PROGRESS" for all three registrations.
I just checked today (2/12/18), and there are no issues listed under "MY ISSUES LOG".

Should I just wait another "2 weeks"?

Got my letter Friday. Envelopes for 3 of us were stuck together, one not being sealed. Post Office couldn't be bothered with separating the envelopes.

Returned the other envelopes to the PO box today. They had no postage so should only take the State a few months to straighten it out.

This whole process should simplify the confiscation process for the State.

Surprised we didn't have to include a selfie with the registration pics for easier identification later.

Ouch I’m sure those will end up in a black hole.

Maybe someone can find someplace to post this. I don't know a secure dropbox.
Thanks for the confirmation! I got a similar letter, and my account still shows "In Progress" (just to let other folks know)

Funny enough, I just go notification of my issue today.
18 days from initial submission.
It appears that I needed to add the second handgrip to the AK pistol description.

After 2 months of trying to get my AK pistol approved and opening an issue log, they approved it today. I had to select what you see below for them to finally approve it.

checked Second Handgrip
checked Shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning the bearer's hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel.
checked The capacity to accept a detachable Magazine Outside the Pistol Grip
checked Threaded Barrel (capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer)

Got the rest of my registrations back today 18 day turnaround between getting the in processing email and getting my letter. Had some oddballs in this one including AK, MP5 and HK53 pistols that were all self built. No problems all around.

So many questions....

Can I register a 9mm pistol (AR) that was created under SSE 2.0 where a 07 FFL sent an SSE to my FFL to DROS under exempt, which was accepted.

I then converted to semi-auto, with BB install

Can this be registered?
Since I did not make it, do I list the 07 FFL as the creator and use his city/state?
Can you think of any specific answers that need to be present on the form to register this pistol?

Thank you for your time and energy.... I am just having some problems understanding how to deal with this instance as it is not an example listed in the forums first page.

Don't take my word for this, because I'm not completely sure. But my understanding is that a pistol, that is already registered as a semi-auto pistol, would just be registered as an AW pistol following the normal procedure. Check your DROS paperwork to see if it says it was sold to you as a semi-auto or a single-shot.

If it was DROS'd to you as a single-shot, that's where things get fuzzy... because it's not completely clear whether or not it is/was legal to convert such a pistol into a semi-auto later. That's why a lot of people did their pistol builds using 80% lowers, before SSE 2.0

DROS'd as single shot break action.

So... there is that. :P

Does anyone know if it can be registered as semi under the new AWB rules or do I need to disassemble and sell the receiver out of state or some such thing?

My guess is that if you DROSed it as an SSE *before* 2017 and then converted it into a BB semi-auto pistol *before* 2017 you'll be OK .... after all you didn't manufacture an "assault weapon".

You definitely could register as AW. The only gray area C&G was referring to is the vague "manufacturing an unsafe handgun" which has nothing to do with assault weapon laws. My guess is that is an intellectual mind-**** and nothing is likely to come of it, but of course it is not my *** on the line.I can't believe someone has not already registered AW that went through SSE2.0, but I have not been following it that closely as I do not have anything that involved SSE2.0

DROS back in 03/2016 as Exempt SSE under 2.0 with an 07 FFL as the manufacturer. converted the day of pickup to BB semi.

I guess I could give it a try and see if it gets shot back or if I get a knock on the door.

As this was not an 80%, I would imagine I ignore the self built portion of the registration.

has anyone been approved registration with a Raddlock BB? Do you have to have the Raddlock 'relock' or is standard raddlock bb good to go?

any other recommendations?

More information on timing for anyone interested.

I submitted registration for four rifles on 18 January, two AR-15s, two AR-10s, all purchased after 2014. Received nothing except for the $15 fee receipt until yesterday (15 Feb). I finally got incomplete notices on all four yesterday evening, two needed pictures of the barrel for caliber, two I needed to change to interchangeable barrels. I made the changes last night and got the e-mail telling me that I would get notification via US Mail this morning (16 Feb).

Yup. No periods, e.g. St. Spell it all out. So instead of

1234 N. Foobar St.

write

1234 North Foobar Street

I got it working by using all caps. Otherwise it showed an error.

The system keeps getting an error message. I have had to start all over at least ten times now. Seems to be worst with the image upload. I finally got past that once, and it crashed on the final submit.

My average file size is 4.53MB. The picture sizes are all 5312x2988.

This is the message I get about half the time I try and upload the image.

The system must have been loaded down. I tried again a half hour later. It worked with the full sized images from my Galaxy S5.

If you get the error message, try back again later and it should work.

Maybe try another browser, I worked ok on chrome. I did see that error once though.
