Hey friend, what's your MOS? 96R/97B here.

Nevermind, found your original post! You were in Huachuca way before I got there. I got there on my 20 birthday 2 days after they moved the drinking age from 18 to 21. Broke my heart.

Was there still a bar called Spanky's just outside the main gate?

I remember playing pool there one afternoon and hearing a roar from the bar (out of sight), seeing a long-haired kid come flying backward into view, landing on his ***. A MSG, in uniform, and wearing a cast from his ankle to his hip, came slowly hobbling into view, stood over the kid and bellowed "Well, I'm a soldier in the Army, love it, and, if you have anything more to say, let's take it outside!"

The kid said nary a word and crab-walked out the front door.

I worked with a lot of 97B's in the 527th MI BN (CI) in Germany, then again a number of agents who did non-public stuff based in the D.C. area, but operational worldwide.

Ooh, 96R! They were 96K's when I was there - affectionately called "pop-up targets."

I still love that area. Beautiful mountains, great desert. Fond memories.

She was, but the command sucked. I loved going to work each morning to see how much more they cut away of her during the night.
I was on the decom crew and couldn't wait to get away from there.

She's currently in Bremerton sitting next to the hulls of the Virginia and Long Beach. Lovely barges, eh?

Didn't they change the drinking age around 2000 or 2001? I was there for AIT from Aug. 2001-Jan 2002 for 96B, but I failed a test and had to reclass. They made me a fueler with a TS clearance lol.

I remember them saying that a while before we got there that not only did the drinking age used to be 18, but also that soldiers were allowed to visit Mexico since it was so close, if i remember correctly.

Awesome story. LOL - yep, pop up targets. We got no respect until we were in theater jumping out of choppers with SF and scouts. I loved the area too. I think Spanky's was still there, but we played it safe and went to Tombstone or farther or into Mexico to get ripped.

No, just missed it. The EW1 that relieved me was though!

This makes 5 out of my 6 ships that have been decommed, scrapped or sold.

I've still got one of those patches/stickers around here somewhere!!

Don't feel so bad, every command I've been to has been decomm'd or changed into something else and no longer exists. Maybe it's me?
