Default Operator v Logistician Conflicts

I was just talking to an old buddy about the epic struggles we had between operators and logisticians.

Supply types want to keep all the gear placed nicely in the appropriate place, clean and rust-free, ready for inspection by other superior logisticians.

Operational guys (like me) understand the need for taking care of your gear, but also don't give a damn what it takes to win the fight. Give what I need!

In war, logisticians get beat up pretty bad, and have to do whatever the warriors ask. And we do ask for whatever we want! The logisticians hate us, since often, they get shot at delivering supplies! They exact their revenge in peace time, when inspections and accountability are paramount.

Anybody else have similar experiences? I'll bet there are not many supply types on Calguns.

Supply... The Cav Scouts arch nemesis.

Whatever they wont give us, we "accquire" by any means neccesary.

Ive put in 2 supply guys in the last year and told both of them "give it away!". I tried to explain that "its not your stuff, someone needs it to complete a mission"!

Had similar experiences, but I had an awesome supply NCO. Also, my platoon was the only one in the CO that left the FOB (MI). He understood that I actually needed that shiz.

Yep. Spent most of my time in Al Haweja supporting the 163rd or supporting the counter-intel teams or doing air assault missions with the scouts. Where were you?

A long time ago in an Army far far away (6 to 15 man EOD detachments) we normally had all the toys we needed to get the job done through the normal supply channels. It's always nice to be able to write off certain items as consumed in the line of duty. What wasn't available, we traded for with supply sergeants worried about shortages during their next IG.

Awesome. I worked with a couple different THT. The ones that I deployed with were missing the tactical part, though. The northern part of the country had some beautiful areas.

Navy is the same way....if it isnt a part for an F-18, they dont give a damn, and it will be here when it gets here. I work on E-2's and we are already hated on the flight deck because we use up two power cords at a time, then when we break, we have to wait on parts to get to us from the states instead of through supply.

ugh, I hate supply.

Damn S-4, thinks Motor-T doesn't need sleep because convoys are soo easy, then they go ahead and authorize a night convoy just to deliver ice cream to a FOB. Can you believe a logistician authorized a convoy for ice cream? I risked my life to deliver ice cream. Amazing S-4 and all of its infinite Marine Corps wisdom. Ice cream.

Default 96R?

LOL, are romeos still the hell raisers that I remember?

That was my first MOS while on active duty. We had the highest percentage of drug users and article 15s in the Brigade. LOL, I miss those days.

6 seconds to hell!!! LOL.

Back on topic:

When we invaded Iraq, I was begging and stealing everything. Our supply was pathetic. They had a "no questions asked" credit line of 2mil and they were balking at anything we asked for. I ended up buying level IV plates and encrypted radios for my THT team out of Ebay!!! LOL. Pretty sad actually.

You better believe it. Not so much on the drugs, but the alcohol and women, yes. As the smallest platoon in the brigade (there were more lawyers than GSRs) we probably had the highest average for reprimands per platoon. Mostly for getting in fights or caught with female air force officers (in their CHUs of course) Our CO hated us, but the 1SG knew that if anything needed to be done, it was us he went to first. Outside of 11B, and SF - we are probably the sharpest contrast to logisticians.

It's a little bit different with me but...

In the South Dakota winters the wind cuts through some of the layers of clothing you've got to wear to stay warm. A lot of times the nice insulated coveralls or good gloves and winter boots aren't always forthcoming when you ask for them. Some guys get fed up and run off to the local sporting goods stores or Cabela's to grab thermals and watch caps which always seem to be in short supply, especially after you've been soaked in JP-8 or hydraulic fluid for the third time this week and just want something clean so you can rotate things out for washing. Gloves and boots especially you practically have to beg for.

What really kills me is when we go deployed. At the end of shift we're usually the dirtiest, grimiest folks on base and a lot of higher ups hate the sight of someone with DCU boots that are black with brake residue and engine oil occupation be damned. So they send a nasty-gram to our OICs to tell them to send us in to get new stuff. At the rate we'd go through things if we did that the DoD would probably go broke in 8 months.
