Default What gear/equipment do you carry/get issued? All branches

First off thank you for serving! You all have my prayers

A complete inventory list. Of gear ect everything!
I was just wondering what you guys have on you?
A total list/inventory all gear, mags, ammo, and weapon, socks ect everything
Also I was wondering if some is required? Or can you pick and choose?
And what is something you bring as a must have? Or upgrade?

say the Marines, with the giant packs?

And not just for BOB but for combat for you guys

I'm not following.

They issue everything. Way more than we need, or want to bother with.

You don't use you own sling? Or change anything? Or carry anything extra? Snacks? Or anything?

And what is "everything"? Could you break it down? Like an inventory list?

General curiosity and I was putting together a BOB 72 hour pack and wanted it geared more towards military than a standard one
But most of all I have always wondered what you carry
Most of the time, personal gear is not authorized by your command. Maybe a Leatherman/Gerber and a folding knife but beyond that kind of thing, if it isn't issued, you aren't using it. By anything he means we get a lot of stuff that is pretty useless 99% of the time. Only time I've ever used my canteen cup or canteens was boot camp, yet they're still issued. Same with water proofing bags.

The 72 hr packs are the assault packs (school backpack size) and not the main packs. In those, depending on your position in the fireteam, you will carry about 300 rounds of ammo for yourself, between 6 and 10 magazines, a can or two of ammo for the saw gunner, spare barrel for the saw gunner, as much water as you can carry and maybe an mre that you've broken down so it fits better and weighs less.

It isn't a good idea to use a military issue loadout as a template for a BoB. We generally operate under the assumption that food and water will be provided, one way or another, every 24 - 48 hrs depending on your mission. We also would be carrying stuff that we need, finger print scanner/camera, for our job that would be completely pointless for you getting out of a shtf situation. A better place to look for what to pack is a backpacking guide. Things like a water filter, fire starting equipment, shelter if you aren't confident in building your own, etc. The only thing you would add to that guide is a field repair kit for your weapon(s), ammo, and magazines.

Quoted for emphasis... the gear you're asking these guys about is designed around combat; not emergency survival. If you're trying to come up with a BoB, you're looking at survival gear and weapons/ammo for self defense, not offense.

If you're really set on mimicking military survival gear, you wanna look toward the CMU-33A Airsave vests that pilots and aircrew carry... we're the only ones I can think of who truly carry a "survival kit" because, if we're on the ground, it means we're surviving and evading; not fighting. The vest is molle, and the pouches can be customized and loaded with whatever minimum survival gear you feel you'd need... the radio pouch could be used to carry a poncho, survival blanket, or other shelter-making item. You could also attach the pockets in a way that allows you to wear a backpack over the vest and still have access to all worn gear.

On the topic of backpacks... one of the best sources for basic 72hr survival backpacks is Mormon/LDS supply companies. You can buy pre-made kits like these, which come with a cheap backpack... and then transfer everything to a better quality pack that you could add a few more molle pouches to.

Another advantage to the CMU-33A/backpack combo is that you can't always wear a backpack. Driving with a pack on, for example, would be challenging... but you can wear a -33A while driving; that's why we wear them while flying. Let's say you're in a theoretical scenario where sh*t has begun to hit the fan and you're trying to bug-out: you've loaded you pack and long guns/ammo in the vehicle, and you're wearing your -33A and a pistol... suddenly, things go from bad to "oh, f**k!", and you have to abandon your vehicle in a hurry and run for your life. You've just lost your pack and long guns... but you're still wearing your -33A with minimal survival gear an a pistol for defense.

Chemical gear, gas mask
helmet
eye pro
goggles for the helmet
trench shovel
winter gear
sleeping bag

just stuff upon stuff, none of which would seem to be useful in say a natural disaster or city wide riot situation.

Army issued equipment sucks, always have, probably always will. I always use as much of my personal equipment as possible as its lighter, stronger, and more comfortable.

Without the training to go with it, the equipment list is virtually worthless.

Over the years I have deployed with Marines and Navy Seals; what the various units carry is based on their training and what they think they will need based on intel and mission experience.

There are training avenues available that teach a bit about movement, and tactics. Get a few classes, gain a little experience and build an equipment list that works for you, in your situation, in your environment.

I have worked with my local county Search and Rescue unit for more than 15 years - in that time my pack configuration is vastly different than say a person that graduated the academy a few years ago, the difference? My experience of what I need and where I need it. I still have the entire required list, but things I need and use are much more accessible than other items.

Not really. Nothing we get issued is particularly fancy. Most of it is the same thing that was issued in Vietnam just with a new coat of paint so to speak. Now, if he were asking about the countermeasures systems on the aircraft, yes, I would agree with you.

You asking me, or the ground combat guys?

For me, it's basic Tom Cruse Cosplay: flightsuit, boots, gloves, dogtags, helmet, and vest with basic survival gear.

They better all have low-capacity magazines! Think of the children!

Is that a hunting ICBM or for "self-defense"?

first off it has to be issued which in my command it's not. I have all my own personal stuff on my IBA. never had an issue downrange with it either except the IBA when the Army said personal armor cant be used. but I still used my own MOLLE pouches and so on. never had anyone say squat then and today either. it's nothing that would cause attention.

now some guy wearing Multicam that is not issued Army wide well that would get you into some trouble.

Specify which branch and MOS you are talking about. Giving that answer for a general question asking what the military is issued couldn't be more wrong.

At least in the Army, it can be broken down by MOS and unit as to what gear and weapons you will be issued. Some S-1 clerk is not going to get half the gear/weapons an infantryman will get.

OP, it sounds like you're asking so you can put together an airsoft kit. You have it written all over your posts and I'm not going to help. The information is out there if you want to find it, but even if you're not some airsofter, people are going to take your questions the same way I have on other forums. It shouldn't be hard to find by researching it yourself.

I'm referring to the standard Marine Corps issue. 99% of the time, our mos doesn't change what gets issued

Lets see what to learn. Frank is a bubble head machinists mate rode a fast attack the way his list is configured. The P-3 is a weapons system if you hit them on the head with a buoy. The only bad part of being on P-3's is you have to go to Coronado and Warner springs for the fun stuff. Prisoner 48here. Riding around on three engines so you conserve fuel and can stay longer is real commitment.

What did they say Military and intelligence doesn't go together. When you get notice imminent attack get drunk and fall asleep. When the village is empty get up and look around stuff to hit the fan.

My favorite line in a movie don't take that well what should I take? More ammo dude.

No ****. Last time I was made to go through OCIE, the Sgt asked me, "Jesus Christ, look at all the **** you have! Why are you in my office?"

"Because my chain of command wouldn't take no for and answer and wants me to get more ****."

And to think, if you're missing just one damn little thing, they will want their money whether you wanted all that crap or not.

What else are you going to carry your e-tool in?

What else are you going to carry your compass in?

Car window breaker- perhaps pointless but most guys I knew kept their window breaker/seat belt cutter in their POVs.

ECWCS is useless? Tell that to the guys in Fort Drum. I guess you've never been to Afghanistan.

Mosquito net- Depends on where you're stationed.

Daps- extremely useless, I agree.

Camelbak is useless? Know how I know you're a pog?

I'll agree some of the gear they issue us may be useless (not a lot) but the items you listed were terrible examples.
