Default In wretched jam with gun purchase, could use your input.

This the rifle I'm attempting to purchase. Any questions you have to lend a hand would be great.
Let's just get the Ï'm an idiot" part out of the way. I've made a mistake but there may be some hope....dunno.

Colt LE901 16s
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BI4a9upRtN8

Went outside of Calguns and found this on Armslist.
The seller advertised in California. After many texts back and forth I agreed to send his asking price of 1,400 via Western Union. The man would not answer his phone to verify and solidify some details but I took a shot.
He now has my 1,400 plus another 500.00 which I sent again via Western Union.
The texting back and forth is ridiculous. He's coming up with one sad story and excuse after another. This particular gun I assumed was California Compliant. No it isn't - doesn't have the bullet button mag release. He's provided me with a tracking number to a Intraway shipping company based out of the UK. The track reads "on hold, contact seller."
The shipping address is to Rifle Gear in Fountain Valley California as I provided.. They will return the rifle to the sender if it is non CA compliant.
Whole thing is a mess, this Moth f uk er has 1,900 dollars of my money. and I'm not getting prompt correspondence. A scale of 1-10 on my anger level is not nearly sufficient to guage how furious I am.
What to do? I have his name, address and telephone number.

Thanks for any ideas ya might have to handle this guy.
Regards
Pissed Off To No End.

I'd say there's a 99% chance you're completely SOL. The western union thing should have been a huge red flag, and the scammers use it for everything because it's not like you're going to be able to do anything about it after the fact.

Sorry Op but this could be a painful lesson. Sorry for your troubles. Does not pass the smell test. What was the other $500 for?

I know...it's embarrassing - the whole matter.
Love to visit that apt Clint Eastwood style but that's in a fantasy world.
The balls on these people dealing with gun buyers that have who knows what - amazing.

Nigerian scammers often use a .UK address.
It makes them more believable.

Here's a website you will enjoy.

wow, buying a gun from an international seller. unless that gun is virtually unobtainium in the US, I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole. The importation of that is a *****. I doubt ATF/CBP will even let it come back into the country with it being in a "non-sporting" configuratiion. ATF Form 6 and all that that entails. And it would need to stop at an out-of-state FFL first to have it californicated.

But in this case, sure does look like you got scammed.

Dude, I can fix your problem easy. Send me $500.00 by western union as a security deposit. I'll get your gun for you and refund your deposit when I'm done. Just need it to show your serious.

J/K of course.

Had no idea he was an intl seller until he provided the tracking/shipping info after payment.
Well, I'm sick to my stomach. Going to that address next week. That name picked up the Western Union money with a govt issued idea.
As much as the police will allow me to get away with is what's going to happen. Keep the money, long as I can throw just one punch.
I appreciate your help and realization guys. I made a mistake it appears.

Why the hell does Western Union even exist? Is there ever an actual, legitimate reason to use their service other than scamming people?

You need to decide if the money is worth going to a random fraudsters address and possibly either getting hurt or having to hurt someone

armslist was the first clue that this was going to be bad...Western Union made it that much worse.

Good luck on this one. It's a very expensive lesson.

I'm not Mr gonna kick your *** violent tough guy macho however I can quietly bring a man to the threshold of desperation very quickly with a sweeping grip. No money is fine but perhaps he may learn how fast he will forget not to engage in fraudulent activities with good people. Not a sound other then my lecture.

Nobody gets hurt, just a lesson from a visitor.
Violence in any form is unacceptable but sometimes a little reminder to the undesirable elements that breathing is important.

Wow, don't expect to ever see that rifle. But don't let that ruin shipping rifles for you. I've shipped and received a ton of firearms, but only after being able to confirm identities or having a good iTrader. Next time don't wire someone money...

Probably no way to get your money back.
FWIW
Should cut off their heads so it wont happen again to someone else.

Lots of western union car scams under $5000 (usually $4500) because its under the dollar amount to prosecute.

The picture and address likely mean nothing. The fact that you're apparently dealing with an entity that used a shipping service based out of London England should be a sign that nothing you were told by this guy is legit.

If you do go to the address you somehow have, who knows what situation you'll walk into, if the address is even real.

This is pretty much the same MO as half the frauds on the internet. Consider it a very expensive lesson learned, maybe hand the info you have over to the cops, see if your insurance might be able to help, and if none of that works, move on with your life.

'well.....what would you guys do at this point?
You have an address, a name and phone number. You're in the hole for 1,900 and the man that picked up the Western Union Money in Anaheim (I checked), is most likely at that address.
What would you do?
Learned the lesson but geez, ya have to scout that address don't you? Tough to rollover on 2k.

ARMSLIST + Western Union + Overseas (although undisclosed in this instance) = DANGER! SCAM! AVOID!

I am sorry this happened to you, Rickey, that is a huge investment loss; certainly would be for me, at least. If this deposit did land in Anaheim, hell, maybe the crook can be tracked down?

Take a breath man and think that out.

Intl scammers steal domestic Facebook profiles and the IDs associated with them for these type of scams. They also create fraudulent Facebook profiles using pilfered pictures. You can buy magnificent Government Identifications near Downtown Los Angeles as well.

I would recommend getting advise from a Legal Advisor as to your options because wrist locking some dude in Anaheim for your money for an English gun sounds like a recipe for failure.

"As much as the police will allow me to get away with is what's going to happen" - They won't "allow" you anything.

What the hell is a Colt 901 doing in England anyway? Don't the cops run around with little bats? Hope its not an Airsoft....

Thanks much, I'll do my best'to track. Spoke with ATF, Anaheim PD and US Customs about his story. Surprisingly Customs has shown the most interest in giving me a hand with this name location. Young lady took mercy and scheduled an appointment with an ICE agent. She was very nice.
Money an rifle gone but maybe they can help the rest of us honest people in the future.
