Me too.... I had my doubts it would reopen this year.....

I don't think it will be open long..... If you aren't already a member it might be time to consider membership in WCGC... WINCHESTER CANYON GUN CLUB!

Some great programs there.... Lotsa fun!

Good news... The restriction has been lifted officially and is reflected on the LPFS Website!

Huh, must have just been today. I rolled by yesterday afternoon and the gate was still closed. The hills did look moderately green.

I like shooting at Wes Thompsons range in Piru. Its a little closer for me. But GF is first choice.

I got out there for a bit this afternoon. The gate was still up. It was not crowded.

We seem to have a regular crew on inconsiderate dirtbags that always do this. Short of hiring a FT security guard, this type of idiocy will continue.

Going up Saturday with my son, who has done the cleanups there but has not yet shot there. Should be a good time. Will post pics.

Speaking of inconsiderate dirtbags, some asshat in a black SUV buzzed me my inches on the road out to it today. Please be considerate of cyclists and other road users out there.

The gate is open now, also. There were about 4 vehicles there when I went by around 6.

What an incredibly beautiful day up at the GF. Here is a little range report. My 15 year old son came with me, he has participated in a clean up there but had never shot there with me.

He takes after me, he kind of fell in love with my M44, first time he had shot it. He loved the boom and the whole feel and vibe of it. I used some of my Czech low recoil training ammo as he has had some surgery on his chest and I didn't want to chance heavy recoil for him.

He even liked loading it manually without stripper clips

The lineup, from left to right, some stupid black plastic toy, Ruger 10/22, M48A Mauser, Mosin M44 (slightly Bubba'd, I rescued it, still a great shooter) and my S&W 625 PC. Actually, first time out with new Nikon M223 2x8 scope on the Windham AR, I LOVED it, I was basically hitting everything I shot at, even a golf ball at about 110 yards. If you have an AR, this is a really nice optic for it without breaking the bank.

First time shooting the new M48A, nice rifle.

We had the range to ourselves from sunrise until about 9:00 AM, but it never got crazy and these shooters were all responsible and safety conscious. I spoke with everyone on the line, educated them about cleaning up their mess, which they all did.

Compared to how it looked in the past, we are actually in pretty good shape at this point. With our usual volunteers, we could clean this up in about an hour.

The 10/22 is still fun, even after the M44. Hitting the gong at 100 yards, it makes tiny little plink in comparison

Capybara Jr. and Senior - Nothing like shooting with your kids, it's the best.

Going up and taking my father in law, brother in law and son again next week. Hope we get a little more rain, would be great to stay open until June but the weather report is not encouraging, what little green and moisture we have is evaporating during Summer-like days like today.

Feel like there needs to be some extra signage regarding the firing line. The past three times I have been up there a few groups have been shooting pretty far behind the line.

Signage at the GF is usually shot at, used for targets. Some shooters who frequent the GF have the mental capacity of a destructive fourth grader, they pollute, shoot and destroy everything possible.

I was out on West Camino Cielo on Saturday, on the dirt past Winchester
and some people were shooting clays from a little turnout off the road. They were really respectful of our presence, didn't shoot while we were near, but does anybody know if that's a legit shooting spot?

So, I went out yesterday afternoon. I was all alone on the range and it was a picture perfect day. You guys have done an excellent job keeping the range clean!

Nice seeing you up there Red Monkey and very nice meeting your lovely wife. Loved your Zombie AR, good build. Wish it hadn't been so wet and foggy, all of my steel was painted white and just about impossible to see but we had a good time anyway. It was good to see that all of this fog and mist is keeping the GF green, which means we will stay open longer this year. I am heading back up this week for some more shooting.

I was there yesterday, there are TVs and a mini fridge up there.

the 100 yard signs are gone, and the gun safety sign may as well not even be up anymore.

Yeah, someone was nice enough to make a trash pile right to the right of the main line. Easier to cleanup that way at least. The yardage signs are gone, didn't see the mini fridge and TVs out on the range, perhaps those are new. Overall, the range is still much cleaner than it was for most of last year, I am optimistic that we are making a difference in the overall amount of pollution left up there. Still way too much but much less than we have had over the past two years.

If they are too lazy to carry it out, putting it all in a big pile will help us when we do the next cleanup. Lesser of two evils.

Anyone been up this week yet? Is it brown and dried out yet from last week's winds or is it still green?

I didn't get all the way to the glass factory today but at the next peak westward, it was still pretty green.

If it's micro stamped, I'd contribute to a fund to mail the whole sh__pile to the owner's front doorstep.

I love optimists. We used to have five benches up there, all were shot up. Perhaps we can make it through the season with the bench intact and nobody will steal it. Looking pretty clean, someone is raking the shells and pollution from the range into a pile, thank you whoever you are doing this. Still a bit of green, maybe they will keep us open until well into June. Fingers crossed, although weeks like this week dry it out quickly.

I'm hoping that the USFS doesn't shut us down too soon but w/ weather as of late and the fire burning in Lompoc I'm sure the GF will be closed off for fire season very soon.
