Default Custom Grips Finally Came In...

Burnt Bronze Cerakote slide by 2A Concepts in Lake Forest, James Stehlin grips, and Dawson fiber optic front sight.

Sure changes that plain-jane ol' 1911 with the cheapo wood grips.

Well it only took about 2 years but I finally got my RIA 1911 GI.

I actually put a down payment on it at the Turners Fair a few weeks ago. Just picked it up yesterday; it is absolutely awesome. I'm going to shoot it this weekend.
Now comes the hard part of decided what I want to do to it updgrade/customizing wise.

Any good 1911 mags will work in the RIA. Make your choice accordingto budget and price point. I personally like MecGar, Chip McCormick, and Wilson Combat in that order from lowest to highest price point. Standard GI mags are fine for range use and fairly econmical, I like Springfield Armory GI mags.

Avoid Promag, as they can be problamatic.

Chip McCormick mags at Exile Machine,

Sorry to quote myself, but a few have had trouble finding Jimmy Grips - JS Gun Grips. The guy does phenomenal work and he's quite a bit cheaper than VZ. A shooter could have a few grip sets and change his gun around when he gets bored with it.
BTW, they work really well too, put a couple of hundred rounds through it Sunday and no ill effects to the hand. They are surprisingly sharp, definitely grip like a mutha'.

http://www.jsgungrips.com/about.html

He has a LOT of styles and makes them up on order so they take a bit to get...right now he's saying 3-4 weeks. Mine took about that long but well worth the wait. I did have to mod for the ambi safety but easy on a bench grinder for clearance is no sweat.

EDIT: BTW, he has some cool grip tapes custom cut for poly shooters too. <thumbs>

I like it. Looks like they detailed parts in black too. Wondering about the barrel, won't it get wear marks on the port area?
I put mine on a buffer and polished it, have to re-polish it after a few hundred rounds.

Default RIA 1911A1 FS Match as it came home today

Build date 9/2013 FS Match with the rubber grips and two white dot rear LPA sight. All I have done so far is clean it and adjust the trigger overtravel setting down to where it doesn't drop the hammer and then backed it off a bit. The fit/tightness and trigger on this example are great. I haven't seen a Tactical, or Match this tight in an RIA... or in a Springfield, or Kimber. I got lucky and was able to pick the best one. Hopefully I can shoot it decently

RIA Commander sized 4.25" Railed 1911, 9mm

For a size comparison, it's about the same size as my M&P9.

Looks good. How do you like the Recover CC3's ? How was the fit at install? How about the fit around the safeties? Is the traction ok on the grip material?

The CC3s need some filing to fit flush around the trigger guard.

Also needed some filing to clear the slide.

The traction is pretty good, makes it a bit wider but not glock wide.
