Unless something has majorly changed they don't have the votes. Never know though.

I don't think so either.
But lets say your a legislator, and you vote to overide Brown, embarass him, a Governor of your own party, would you expect that Brown would support any bills you wrote? Seems like a stupid move.

I'm a little lost on the website: how do you see the agenda for next Monday?

Clicking "show agenda" on the Jan 27 page ( http://senate.ca.gov/calendar?start=...&end=1-27-2014 ) didn't cause anything to be displayed. Is there another means of accessing the agenda?

They have a supermajority, so they can override ALL of Brown's vetoes.

If they do that, it's time to lock and load, and take a little trip to Sacramento.

Please stop posting stuff like this. We've already discussed this exact issue 3-4 times these past few weeks.

Those bills were not dead just because Brown vetoed them (374). They automatically come up for review again. This is a scheduled thing and is normal.

There is absolutely ZERO chance of an override of a Brown veto.

What they will do is modify the language and re-introduce as a new bill this year. Their hope is to make changes that would be more to the governor's liking in hopes he signs the new version.

I'm more worried about Yee's SB47. Jerry isn't in favor of banning "hunting rifles", but EBR-type guns? I wouldn't bet on another veto there...

I didn't know that veto'd bills automatically come up for review the following year.

So if they decide to resubmit or modify and then resubmit, does it require a new bill number (like a new bill altogether) or do they just resurrect the old one?

Has a bill that has been vetoed ever been over ridden in modern CA political history?

Or how how about vetoed bills that come back only slightly modifed and get signed into law by the Governor?

How unusual or possible is it?

They're not going to be happy until they criminalize every California gun owner. Then they're going to have quite an enforcement problem, aren't they?

It's okay for people to go ahead and read the actual information and status of ca.gov laws. It comes up for the potential hearing if the legislature feels it should go into effect notwithstanding the governor's objection. Given the folks that CA put into the legislature, veto overrides are possible and will have a higher probability However, it seems that no action has been pursued.

I wouldn't worry about SB374; there's plenty of other shenanigans on the federal, state, and local level to be concerned with. The 2014 elections will also important--let's hope people choose wisely this time.

Not to mention it makes your own party's frontrunning gubenatorial candidate look like a schmuck... and Brown is likely to run for re-election.

I think we are free of the more draconian bills for this year. Because its an election year they will try to stay more on the mild side. It will come up in a non election year like 2015. We will have .30 caliber clip laws this year. Capable of firing 30 bullets in half a second.

"Democracy" can become the majority trampling an the rights of the minority. The US is a Republic for a reason. The peoples republic of CA is at best a democracy. Sad to see how far this once great state has fallen.

highly unlikely to override a veto from a politician of your own party. if they were to do it they could have last year and they didn't.

It would seem that you lack knowledge and understanding of the CA Legislative process Scoutcamper.

I'm sure it's not your intent to post FUD, but you might want to verify your information before you post next time.

Did this info come your way in a forwarded email?

Last years Vetoed Bills are dead. The opportunity for a veto override died last year.

They can be reintroduced in the next few weeks and start their way through the Legislature, just like last year, and if passed can be signed or vetoed by the Governor, just like last year.

Keep eyes and ears open to see what Bills get reintroduced.

Did you notice all the vetoed Bills that the Legislature overrode last October?

No?

That's because there weren't any. Zip, Zero, Nada, None, Nope and Uh-Uh.

And there won't be any veto overrides this year either. They don't have the votes to support an override.

That's not true. The legislature adjourned last year on September 13 and did not reconvene until January 6. Thus, it would have been impossible for them to override the vetoes last year. Right now is the first opportunity.

That said, it isn't happening. Vetoes are rarely overridden, especially vetoes by a Governor of the same party. Also recall that SB 374 barely passed both houses last year. There is not near enough support for a two-thirds majority.

Yes!!! Quote of the week, month, year even?

@ OP, it's part of the process, notice in the Governors veto messages "I am returning [insert bill #] without my signature". A veto doesn't kill it outright, it's "returned" to the legislative body from whence it came.
