Default Please recommend a small pepper spray for a woman?

After reading a wonderful thread written by kel-Tec-Innovations about his being attacked at a gas station, it really made me think about getting pepper spray. As he clearly pointed out, if you are approached by someone who makes you feel uncomfortable, you really can't pull a gun on him (my husband carries, but I don't). But you can point pepper spray right at him, and the moment he crosses the line from being a weird jerk to being an attacker, you can immediately spray him.

Well I'm older...in my 40's but still like to wear tight fitting clothes. I wouldn't mind carrying around pepper spray, but it would have to be small to fit in my pocket...otherwise it would just end up in my purse or in the car where it wouldn't do any good. Also, I would want decent 'range' on the spray, so I wouldn't have to wait until an attacker was 5 or 9 feet away. I would probably be panicked and frozen up by that time to be honest. Any recommendations from someone in a similar situation would be very much appreciated!

Not the smallest but, probably the easiest to use:

The longer the range, the better your aim has to be in a panic situation. But, one that mists instead of sprays is going to get you too.

Another thing to keep in mind when using Pepperspray, "ALWAYS shake it up at the beginning of your shift..."

AND I think it still only affects about 90% of the people you spray so be ready once you spray, you might have to join fight club still.

while you ponder your purchase, keep in mind that while you are actively putting gas in your car that the nozzle you have placed in the gas tank has an unlimited supply of get the hell away from me.

Sabre sells practice spray (water loaded) on their site. Worth consideration. It's probably best not to learn to deploy pepper spray on the job as it were. I got a case of it for the family to learn on. I feel good about the purchase.

Just putting it out there.

Get pepper gel and not spray. The gel comes out in a tight stream, longer range 18-20 feet and has a strong dye mixed in so the perp will be easy to find with a red face from the dye. The gel works better because there is no blowback if windy.

Some punk kid pulled a knife on my wife last March while she was walking the dog. She unloaded the entire small can of pepper gel into his face than beat him with her walking stick while he was rolling around on the ground screaming. The Sheriff had an easy time arresting him since he had two broke ribs and could not open his eyes. He was convicted and is in jail for 4 years.

I thought about that, and have never tried to 'spray' someone with the gas, but isn't there some kind of safety stopper that won't let you just shoot the gas around? haha.

That totally rocks Surfgun!! Thanks for sharing that Is pepper gel way better than pepper spray all the time? I would think if I were attacked, the 'cloud' of spray might be more effective in deterring an attacker?

Fogger: This type of spray pattern is great for multiple attackers, crowd control, bears and home use. One disadvantage is there can be some blowback of pepper contaminating you, especially if used outdoors. However, the blast you would receive and the direct blast the attacker receives are quite different. Where you would tear and cough on a good-sized blowback, the attacker would be rendered incapacitated for about 30 minutes. You pull the trigger or release button, and "fan" your path back and forth hitting everything in its path. Picture a mini fire extinguisher! The pepper works instantly. Causes the eyes to seal with tears, nose to run, excessive coughing, shortness of breath, etc.
Except that reaction is not guaranteed. Shoot and RUN!

engaging the handle in the nozzle is the safety, gas will flow as long as it is activated. should you ever have to do this you will want to hose off your car immediately in case you got any gas on the finish.

I like the Ruger pepper spray for ease of carry, but luckily, I've never had to try it out in real life. Cylinder is small enough to go in jeans pocket, but it has its own little holster, in case you have no pockets or want to carry it on your handbag strap. It's pistol shaped, so it's hard to point at yourself, and has a safety on it, just like a handgun.

there was a thread a few months back where one of our members was the victim of an attempted mugging or carjacking, and sprayed the bg with some spray that had blue dye in it. the cops found the guy a little while ago covered in blue dye. the stuff looked pretty good and wasn't that expensive. dont remember the same of the stuff but someone can find the thread im sure

Something like this is very slim and easy to keep in a pocket, or use as a keychain. They also offer inert (water filled) cartrages for practice.
