Default Need help picking the right scope for my DPMS 308

I just purchased a DPMS 308 20" stainless barrel. I am looking to get the right scope so that I can learn how to long distance shoot. My budget for the scope is 500 to 1000 total. I have the notion to use this rifle in the long term for boar and maybe dear hunting. But want to get better and really know my rifle first. your kind advice is greatly appreciated!

I have the LR308 with 24" SS barrel and after what seemed like a never ending research project for a nice optic ended up with a Leupold VXIII 4x10?x40 with CDS. I'm happy with the scope but wish I had gone bigger. A 50mm lens and 15x magnification would be useful on a rifle like this, however when are we ever going to get these to a range of more than 300 yards? As often as I get it out, this scope is perfect. When I out grow it I'll sell it and upgrade. Hope this helps.
