Default Tablet's which one?

So I am looking to get my girl a tablet, I know there are so many different ones out there. She will mainly be using it for internet browsing, shopping, games, and probably a little work (she works for a bank).
what would you guys suggest. It would be nice if it had a USB or SD card slot. so the Ipad is pretty much out of the picture.

Good, bad, ugly....

I bought the cheaper version of the nexus 7 the Asus memo pad. Both made by ASUS. Nexus $300 ASuS $149 I bought it for my 6 year old and he loves it Internet apps , netflix, blue tooth,
Not sure what the difference is between them battery lasts about 10 hours expandable to 32G micro SD.

http://www.asus.com/Tablets_Mobile/A...specifications

Looks like Nexus is android 4.3 2 G ram avail with 2,3,&4 G
And the asus memo 4.22. 1 G ram, wifi only, With 10 hr battery and micro sd
I had to update the android system when I bought it to play netflix many sights say Asus will not play netflix

It is called the Google Play Store. I like the fact that I can share apps (buy once) on my tablet and phone.

https://play.google.com/store

I should add that I have the Nexus 7 and just upgraded to the Nexus 7 2013 when my kid dropped the the first one and cracked the screen. Great tablet.

Another vote for the Nexus 7, although I would recommend you buy the best model you can afford (32GB, LTE) so that it will last you longer. I've already outgrown the 16GB model I have (doesn't hold enough movies for a >3 day trip or >6hr flight).

32GB is supposedly a sweet spot for nearly all users; 64GB is supposedly overkill. I'm not sure why that is, but I have noticed that for years, 80GB seems to be the dividing line between people who are always running out of space on their computers and those who have enough, so I believe that there is a sweet spot for tablets/phones too.

I've actually been thinking about getting an Android tablet again.

I sort of need a tablet. I'm an iOS fan, but the only software that I know of that does what I need is on Android. I need a sheet music program that can read .BWW / .BMW files, and I don't know of one for iOS that does that. I've got a BUNCH of store credit at a place that sells the Nexus 7 ... but I just haven't been able to bring myself to get one.

I've had two Android tablets in the past. One was a 10" Visiontek, the other was a Barnes & Noble Nook Color running Honeycomb and (later) Jellybean. I never really liked them, though. Android just feels ... clumsy, I guess, and nothing is reliable, and so predictably functional, as it is with iOS.

You sound like your mind is already made up. However, a nook and kindle fire types cannot compare to REAL android tablets. Go check out quality android device, and bring a cloth to shine your apple....

Um. The Visiontek thing was a real Android tablet from the factory. The Nook was running Jellybean, so ... I'd qualify that as a "real" Android tablet as well.

As far as other "real" Android devices, I've used several different Android phones belonging to friends, as well as my wife's phone from work. Phones from "real" brands, like Samsung and Motorola.

I'll keep my iPhone, thanks.

As far as a new Android tablet, if I get one it'll probably be a Nexus 7, assuming that I can see the screen well enough to read a full line of music off it.

The Nexus 7 is definitely the first truly usable and polished Android tablet to make it to market, the first contender against the already-mature iPad, and I'm saying this as an early adopter of even the original Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The Nook, etc., were still from that era prior to Google stepping in with the Nexus 7 and showing the other makers how it's supposed to be done.

If you have to see your sheet music at a larger size, you might want to check out the Nexus 10, although personally, I don't think it's as good a tablet as the Nexus 7. I've seen too many hardware problems with Samsung phones and tablets to ever trust them again.

I have both Android and IOS. I mainly use the browser and google apps on both devices. The IPADs only advantage is podcasts and games based on the way I use them.

I have been playing with Windows 8 tablets for over 3 years (work related). One of them is the Surface Pro. It works OK, but it gets quirky on me once in a while while using IE. I would not buy a Windows 8 tablet.

We have a Asus Transformer and a Nexus 7. I like the Nexus 7 more, its more comfortable to hold and more practical to toss in your pocket (or her purse). Its the perfect size, imo. I don't think it has SD card slot but USB and Google Drive make transferring files very easy.

The use of two camera's I find valuable. I can scan documents and immediately send them as pictures. I can video chat skype or other apps. The front camera is a 1 mp and the back one is 5 mp which makes it a great camera and I can edit picture right there on the screen. As you are video chatting you can face the person you are talking to and change cameras to show someone what you are looking at.
I do want to point out that I am having a hard time finding skins and cases for my asus but the nexus is everywhere, but for double the price with no microsd Ill stay with the ASUS.

25 posts and only 2 Apple lovers! Its a new record.

The 7" screen on the Asus memo might be on the small side. I would go with a 10" tablet.

Today T-Mobile announced that you can buy ANY cellular connected tablets they sell (Nexus 7 or iPad) and they'll give you a 200mb free data / per month as long as you have an account with them.

The tablets can be paid outright or via interest-free installment over a period of 24 months.

Having been used both iPad and Android tablets, I can tell you it's a pain when I am outside and have no trusted WiFi connection.

The Kindle Fire most certainly is a real android tablet. It runs on Android 4.x OS and with a couple of simple setting changes it opens the ability to install 1mobilemarket and apps from there.

True, but you can always pay-as-you-go as needed.

For someone like me, it's pretty useful and I can pay just $10 for 1 Gb if I need to. It always good to have a FREE option when I need to check email or get directions quickly.

Better than getting raped by VZ and AT&T for their data plan...

not exactly sure how you came to that conclusion;
are you referring to playback, availability, management?

yet another vote for the Nexus 7 here;
I have had my Nexus 7 since the day they were launched and has never let me down, I use it for mostly browsing, reading and some games.

never had an issue with the 16gig as far as space.

rooted, running pure android (no skins) much like my Nexus 4

The Kindle Fire is Not a true android device. It is a modified android system that amazon created. It doesnt even have Google play store.

Don't forget to add the Amazon market (was it?) for free promotional apps... (once a week?)

Kindle Fire hardware is 100% compatible with Android 4.2.2. True, the FIRE OS is a modified android base, the fact remains, the HW is 100% compatible.

Takes less than 10 minutes to install Google Play store on the kindle fire HD.

I am very happy with my Kindle Fire. There are certainly other options, but they are not necessarily any better, just different.
