Who has the draft language?

The last thing they passed was approval for the city attorney to draft language to write the law.

Are you sure this is law now?

the Los Angeles City Council passed a measure to being drafting an ordinance declaring that standard capacity magazines are a public nuisance, and their possession a misdemeanor

So it's still pending by the looks of it.

My understanding is that this is a draft ordinance currently. But it looks like it is coming. Just a matter of time. Still, if you live in L.A. contact your council person and voice your descent. "Do not go gentle into that good night."

I've already implemented my contingency plan. Talking to an LAPD reserve officer at work, they are ready to start confiscating if caught, not that many of them are going to like doing it.

So if rebuild kits are ok why not just take them apart for the time being until (if it passes) it gets repealed?

Because it's against state law to import, sell, buy, or manufacture (assemble) hi capacity magazines.

My contingency plan is way higher in the thread. I just simply load a big bore round in each of my mags, and bam, they instantly become standard capacity 10 round magazines.

It is not illegal to have standard capacity magazines as long as they are disassembled, to be used as repair kits or to be converted to 10rd limit mag by means of a permanent modification. From what i've read, this ban will apply only to preban/granfathered mags that are assembled as they are considered a nuisance.

If this passes and targets owners of granfathered/preban mags, cant they just simply take these mags apart and have them as rebuilt kits? at least until it gets repealed, you know what i mean?

If you're going to quasi-comply by keeping it and disassembling it to uselessness, that's one way to do it. Why not just declare it a legal mag and keep using it though?

No one is talking about complying but what if it passes? are you going to defy/risk it, knowing it will be immediately challenged in court? Which by the way can take a long time, time these fudging liberals will not waste picking their nose, they will go out and grab as many "illegal" mags as they can while they can and slap an otherwise lawful owner with a misdemeanor.

Challenge what in court? Those are not illegal high capacity 5.56 magazines in my bag. Those are my wholly legal 10 round .50 Beowulf (or .458 Socom) magazines in my bag.

They only hold 10 rounds. They're completely legal. I have not modified them at all, that's just they way they are.

Has anyone used the 'magblock' brand? it actually replaces the spring base - therefore permanently making the magazine 10 rounds as it stands. I hate the idea of epoxying because after dropping your mags for reloads - guaranteed to get some grime in there that will jam up the feed. How are you supposed to clean it if you cant open it when epoxied?

From my reading and understanding, that does not equate to Permanently modified and you are not compliant. My 10/30's for the Saiga are riveted then epoxied and you would destroy the magazine in an attempt to reverse it.

A rumor I heard was if the magazine was a modified to 10 round, they would include that with the nuisance law.

I think, based on that map, that Oak Tree Gun Club is outside of the Sh*tty of LA.

Nice map if the county but this is a city issue, we are safe in the county areas. At least for now. Just need to be careful driving through the city areas.

You think cops are gonna do random checks? Or checkpoints like for DUI?
I was at LAX range yesterday. Cop came in to browse around the shop. Chill dude. We even checked out the weird noise in the restroom hallway...
He didn't even question me about my AR or magazines (10/30pmags)

Everyone keep your eyes open as the ordnance will be drafted soon, and it will be back on the counsel agenda for a vote, and when it is, I'm hoping to arrange a little Calguns representation in opposition.

My thought is that during open counsel any attendee, can complete a speaker card and they'll have their two minutes to speak for/against the agenda item. If we can get 25 or better yet 50 Calgunners to make it to counsel that day and if each one of them fills out a speaker card, that's 50/100 minutes depending on how many of us can attend. They may pass it anyway, but at least we'll give'em hell why they do it.

I am not really sure how it will be enforced, but I imagine if they're seen they'll be confiscated at the very least.

I can agree that everyone is frustrated by this useless ban and generally tired of all the upcoming legislation. However saying "forget the letter writing" is not going to help anyone. If anything the the letter writing and all resistance should be amplified three fold! When the time comes hopefully there will be 50 people easy to speak in opposition of the council. Remember people, it's not just those that live in LA, it's those that might have to drive through LA.

I'm thinking it's because I'm fairly new to firearms that I'm not understanding the issue.

What difference does it make if the city of LA does this? I thought any magazine that can hold greater then 10 rounds is illegal in this state anyway?

Can anyone help me out in understanding it?

Look here
http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/La...e_restrictions

It's my understanding that if persons owning a magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds (high capacity) before January 1st 2000 are allowed to keep, repair and use that magazine (use only in a firearm that was also purchased before January 2000). So for all those who owned magazines before the year 2000 they were able to keep them according to state law.

The proposed law in the City of LA would ban those magazines and turn probably over 100,000 people into felons overnight. Those people would then have to turn them in or risk felonies. There are other outstanding issues as well but I won't talk about them here. No need to help them amend that backwards law.

Thanks for explaining it for me.
