Victor is very reasonable. It all depends on what you want engraved. He is an engineer so he takes his time measuring to make sure location and size of engraving is spot-on.

Keep in mind how long you plan on keeping your weapon. Do you want a bad engraving just cause you saved a few bucks?

Look him up, he's on the web. Tell him Javier sent you

He is not a graphic artist, so you need to come up with your design. He will help you brainstorm ideas from the internet though.

I like the depth of the logo on the metal. This laser can get really fine detail.

Call Victor himself for pricing guys.

Yes CNC is next, then anodizing, then maybe Rub-N-Buff, then assembly of course.

So many choices on AR pistols eh?

Default lASER DEEP ENGRAVING

He Guys,

Thank you for your support, I must say we have been lucky getting very good previews from the Calguns members. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about laser engraving. One question I have noticed keep coming up is how deep can you engrave, on an average we engrave 10-13 times deeper than what is required by the Federal Government 0.030"-0.045" (1mm deep). We can go as deep as 1/4 deep if required with our new hybrid Laser engravers. Once again thank you for your support and keep them coming.

Default Stainless steel laser engraving

I did laser engraving on my stainless steel slide and worked fine, so it should work.

I am going to call Victor at Micro Laser Welding to do my 80% lower this weekend and will ask him about stainless steel engraving for you and let you know.

Victor:

Is the only option with a lower that's already anodized to have the silver look once its engraved? I notice that some look grey, how's that done?

I think its all done with how deep they go with the laser. A surface treatment looks different from the deep, cutting burn that actually removes material. Also, some anodize before engraving and some after.

Just got back from Victor's. He did deep laser engraving over a very shallow engraving that was already there. Took a lot of time to line it up just right so the old wouldn't show. Also had to do it on both sides (different sizes). He was super patient and got almost perfect match.

I took so long that 4 other calgunners showed up after me. If you're engraving a blank lower, I'd guess it takes no more than 30 minutes tops for all the graphics, text, markings per lower. Just send him the artwork ahead of time. he said .svg files work best, but I sent him .jpg and it was fine.

Suggest stripping your lower, or at least remove buffer tube before you get there.

It's actually white when the laser engraving is done. As someone else said, I think the grey is how deep you go.

Victor said that for certain types of stainless steel and titanium, you can get colors from the laser engraving. I don't think you can choose anything under the rainbow, but he has a sample that shows the palette of what's possible. I was geeking out a little because I didn't know you could do so many cool things with laser engraving.

I've been talking and exchanging emails/ideas with Victor for a few weeks now. I live in the Bay Area and was gonna ship him 2 paperweights for engraving. I called him to see if he got my last email and he mentioned he was traveling and now in Sacramento. He asked where I was located and offered to stop by and pick them up so I didn't have to ship it to him. He just left my house with the paperweights and on his way to SF. That was AWESOME of him to do that. I'll post pictures when I get them back.

They need to step up an become a vendor.

Sorry OP, but we see a lot of folks with less than 50 posts praising this outfit.

What is the story?

Check his facebook page, not a huge amount of pics but more than in this thread.

Honestly, I've sent 4 other members to him and each one was a satisfied as I was. With laser engraving the sky is nearly the limit, although the original image should be as high a resolution as possible. Victor can go as deep as you want and it looks awesome!

From what he said, he's doing this on the side to help out his sister (hence only weekends). His actual business is designing and building the lasers for commercial type use. His sister is starting with a jewelery business. Sounded like he's going to try to become a vendor here when he has time.
