Default Do they still have guys "wearing a wire" taped to chest etc?

I'd think in this day and age they could put a mic in the guy's shoe or a pen or pencil and still get good sound and not be so easily found by 'bad guys'.

The feds and cops can have your cell phone mic turned on oven when the phone is off. They can also turn on your onstar. Both have been proven in court. Get this, you have no expectation of privacy if they turn on your cell phone mic after you power down the phone unless you are in your attorney's office in an official meeting.

No warrant needed and no attorney client privilege. Scary times.

Op I know that they did this set up during the 80's I would assume that the tech has changed that this is considered OLD SCHOOL in today's technology.

Um, you spread FUD. Are you a LEO? If not, please refrain from spreading nonsense. If you are, you need to educate yourself.

Law enforcement agencies have been capable of remotely listening to your phone's microphone even when the phone is off for around a decade now, not sure why you guys are acting surprised. Here's an example of what the FBI was able to do with old phones in 2006, I imagine that they have much more advanced techniques employed with today's smartphones.

The U.S. Commerce Department's security office*warns*that "a cellular telephone can be turned into a microphone and transmitter for the purpose of listening to conversations in the vicinity of the phone." An*article*in the*Financial Timeslast year said mobile providers can "remotely install a piece of software on to any handset, without the owner's knowledge, which will activate the microphone even when its owner is not making a call."

I don't have time to look, but the government went to court to try to suppress the public disclosure of this technology.

There is also a court ruling that said the government could monitor a person's conversations through the onstar in their GM vehicle. The court and the LEA both said they knew that the owner of the car was not the suspect and was never under suspicion of being a criminal. The owner of the car just happened to give the person they were after a ride once in a while.

Having the technology to do something, and actually doing it are two very different things. The 4th Amendment still applies.

Go spread your FUD in Off Topic.
