Default FRS/GMRS Radio Question

I just purchased a pair of Midland GXT1050VP4 radios. I know I can only use FRS channels 1-14 with out a GRMS license.

I heard all I need to do to get a license is fill out form 605 and pay $85 for a 5year license.

Can anyone here tell me if that is true or not, and if not what do I need to do. I don't want to get into any trouble.

Advice here is mostly good advice but its best to familiarize yourself with the laws & if needed contact DFW. or local Law Enforcement

Always confirm it for yourself. Ignorance is no excuse.

That's pretty much it. I got approved within 24 hrs and was assigned a call sign. And then go read up on GRMS etiquette.

so.... the fine folks who issue licenses have been discussing dropping the requirement to use GMRS for a few years....

ZERO cases of anyone being fined for not having a license...

The extra power helps get the signal heard but your city range is still extremely short.... 1/2- 2 miles

all this is true, but the license is so easy to get and costs you 12 bucks a year amortized, so I went and did it anyway. Plus you get your own callsign~

FYI, when your issued an FCC call sign, all the info you gave them (name, address) is public record now. A simple search of your call sign will bring that info up. I suggest you not use your home address for fcc licences. Get a po box or something.
