Default Any non-lead rimfire alternatives?

Since Gov. Brown isn't likely to veto the lead ammo hunting ban (at least in my opinion) have any of you .22LR hunters found any non-lead ammo alternatives? So far in my searches I've found nothing. The only alternative I've found is the CA border. So, any ideas?

I know this isn't the hunting forum but it is rimfire specific so that's why I put it here.

Switch to either 22WMR 17HMR or a 17WSM. Not as cheap as 22LR but performs better and its easier to find lead free hunting ammo. Hornady NTX and the CCI Green have been very accurate for me.

This for hunting.

You won't be shooting nearly as much as plinking so it's not so bad money-wise. Unless you're surrounded by a platoon of attack squirrels. Then you're in trouble.

Bass Pro usually carries a guilding metal 22 LR by Winchester.bbit is lik 26 grains. It seems to shoot and feed OK even in semi automatics. It is expensive.

Varmint hunting is considered hunting right? Excuse my ignorance, I am not a hunter. But this law would cover people trying to control pestilent disease laden vermin?

Is putting down a feral animal count as "hunting"? Are LEOs exempted from this law?

Now I see why they removed rimfire from the semi auto assault weapons bill. They are doing away with .22 cal with the lead ammo ban.

Great...more FUD.

Newsflash: Manufacturers will not stop making or selling lead 22 ammo.

Of course they are. (In the performance of their duties.) Why should agents of the state be bound by the same constraints as those they rule?
Apparently, the lead bullets fired at vermin from state sanctioned guns will magically have no deliterious effect if ingested by the the California Condor. Remember, you're living in California where legislative common sense isn't so common.

I've got an article up on my site that covers the lead-free rimfire options, along with some hunt reports related to specific calibers/rounds:
Lead Free Rimfire Ammunition Round-Up - Varminter.com

There is another option for .22 LR, from Winchester. Unfortunately, finding it right now will be difficult. I recommend checking with your local gun stores, or do what I do and get a list of ammo to everyone you know. Have them check their LGS as well. Eventually, you can get what you need.

Thanks for the replies. I've decided to not renew my CA hunting license next year. I already keep several of my favorite guns out of state because they are illegal here. I think this is the straw that broke my back. Time to go home.
