Default CaPRC RIMFIRE Match at Angeles - September 8, 2013

The California Precision Rifle Club is proud to announce that our next Tactical Precision Rimfire match will be Sunday September 8th at the Angeles Ranges.
For details about the Angeles Ranges, see their website: http://www.angelesranges.com

Signups start at 8:30am and shooting should start at 9am.
This month we will be shooting on the private "Fort Angeles" range. From the main parking lot, take the road on the left, go past the Gun/Reloading store, it is the first range on the right side of the road. Park in the dirt on the side of the road, or in the main parking lot and walk in.
Please arrive no later than 8:30am to complete your waivers, sign-in and get assigned your shooter numbers. Your shooters number is also your position on the line so please lineup accordingly. Please note that we will be in the sun all match (no overhead cover) unless people can coordinate to bring shade covers, bring fluids to drink and sunscreen, it probably will be a hot one. Also, the entire range is dirt, be sure to bring a shooting mat, moving blanket, or other ground cover if you don't want to lay in the dirt all day.

Match fee is $20 for Caprc members or $30 for non members.
We will finish by 1-2pm but we have the range for the day so a BBQ and practice session is also possible.
Bring 100 rounds of ammo minimum, suggest 150-200 rounds as you will have time to confirm your zero.
Be prepared to shoot as close as 10yds and as far as 100yds.

Be prepared to shoot from standing, kneeling, seated, prone and other improvised positions.

This match is open to bolt action and semi-auto rimfire rifles in .22 lr caliber only.
No Hyper velocity ammo, match grade target ammo recommended.
Bipods, slings, shooting mats and rear bags are allowed and recommended.
Chamber flags are mandatory and are available from the club if needed. Observers are welcome!

Line helpers are always needed! If you are planning on attending to just watch and not shoot, please volunteer to be a line helper. Duties may include: Helping stapling and placing targets, keeping score, and spotting. Its a great way to get up and close to the action and see whats its all about.

Line helper RSVP's will be accepted anytime.
CaPRC Member RSVP's will be accepted anytime.
Non-Member RSVP's will be accepted after 6pm on Sunday September 1st.

At the appropriate time, you can RSVP here:

Come on down Bill.
And bring those 5 steel rimfire little men of mine that you have.
I need them for this match!

These matches are a lot of fun but will frustrate the hell out of you when you blow up on an easy stage. Don't be intimidated by the equipment anyone else shoots as there will be a lot of Ruger 10-22s on the line.

I've shot the rimfire matches that Timberwolf used to run up at "A Place to Shoot" and it was always a good time. In the pictures above the group shot looks like San Quentin Penitentiary class of 2011 but they're a good group of guys and new guys are always welcome.

There have also been Marlin 795s in the rimfire matches:

That's like a $100 rifle. The $200 Bushnell scope was severely blurred and parallaxy at anything closer than 100 yards. Ammo was probably CCI Mini-Mags. And the bipod didn't swivel for uneven ground. And that shooter shot the match. He did just fine.

It's natural to be intimidated by shooting this match, but you shouldn't be. CaPRC is not an international field of smoking hot nordic women pumped up on EPO and shooting mega-dollar Anchutz Fortner repeaters and Lapua ammunition with great speed and accuracy in arctic conditions after skiing for miles:

It's not like that at all. Our matches look more like this:

Typical rifles are 10-22s and Savages:

Just bring what you have. And don't be intimidated. This is a great way to get started in precision riflery. Even if you eat it at the match, nobody there will laugh at you. People laugh only on the internet. People at the matches know it takes guts just to show up. Even if you finish last, you still finished ahead of all of the big-talking, MOA-all-day-long, 1000-yard internet snipers who didn't show.

Again, RSVPs are now open. You can RSVP here:

I saw you RSVP'd. Well done.

If you get a chance before this Sunday, check your Cheytac. A Marlin XT-22 is an excellent rifle and should be shooting much better than 1" at 25 yards. Around 1/2" at 50 yards is typical of factory Marlin XT-22s that haven't been Frankenstein'd into other stocks and such. Also, if time allows a range trip to Angeles, take a pen and paper and try to gather some hard dope for 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, and 200 yards.

That's two new shooters for this weekend's rimfire match. Any other takers?

Show up a little early and ask for help Sunday morning.
I will have some dope sheets which you can use to record your hard dope during the zeroing time at the beginning of the match.
Link here to print your own: http://www.ar15barrels.com/data/22dope.pdf
Try and find some match grade 22 ammo this week or buy a couple boxes off of someone at the match.
It will help your grouping to be more consistent.

The club's next rimfire match will be on November 17, 2013, at Angeles.

I will post another announcement as the time draws closer, but mark your calendar if you are interested in shooting that match.

Sure, that could be fun. Would you mind uploading it?

Do you also have a vid of the barricade/spools stage?

I'm still cracking up from that truck stage. That was the first time I had shot from a truck. It was gangster.

Thank you for uploading the vids.
