I showed up during the one about school sex.

Are we sure these people ARE tea partiers and not plants trying to make us look bad? Because that is what it felt like to me.

Really really like the idea of a rally but it needs to be a 2nd Amendment rally only.

Also I would like to add that I really appreciate the people who tried to put this together I was just a bit bummed out by that speaker that's all.

That was a really sad rally. We make fun of MAIG for getting 15 people coming to their rally, but then we can hardly do any better.

I agree completely about the Tea Party speakers. Wildly off topic rants that did nothing to help our cause. And what was up with the woman talking about elections? While I supported the speakers' positions, we need to keep gum rallies about GUNS.

And yes, maybe 100 people.

I was going to generous and say 125! The speaker climate conservative.
I was expecting more of a 2A Rally, thus I was disappointed. Had I drove from Southern CA. or much farther than I did I would have been extremely disappointed!

Let me just say, I was incredibly thankful that the media wasn't there. Their persistence in ignoring our events worked in our favor this time. While we did have some great speakers (Dan, matt, preacher man, I'm looking at you), our message was drowned out by the whole bathrooms thing. While an important issue in its own right, it was neither the right time nor the right place.

I was underwhelmed by the turn out but I'm glad I made the effort to participate. The bathroom thing was AB1266 which allows transgender k-12 students to choose which locker room or restroom to use that was recently signed by Governor Brown. I thought that topic should have had it's own protest event but I think they were trying to make the point that our state continues to create bad policy no matter the subject. There was also a gun show in town this weekend which is always gonna draw away some potential participants.

I thought about a 150 people.

Now that we at least know SOME people will show...every one of us needs to print fliers and talk to people for next time. I see no reason why we couldn't get 500-1000 people. Just need to keep it solely 2A related.

Great for the people that went. But again WHY is this being done yet again on a weekend??? No one including the politicians will see it? I'll bet it's not even going to be a blip in the news, newspaper, or radio.
If you want to get attention for a cause you've got to at least stop traffic.
I know we in the 2A community are not hard wired like the Soros paid protestors, but were being stepped on big time and now past the time to just push back before a new disarmament day is celebrated by the sheeples.
Big plans are needed.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh....

I've been to a few events like this... and in alot of ways they are like funerals, except in reverse.

A funeral is for the benefit of the living, not the decedent. A protest on the Capitol steps on the weekend is for the benefit of the protesters, not the politicians.

I was really disapointed in the turn out the last rally i went to there were 1000+ people, Today maybe 100. I showed up late but I went and signed the petitions. We need to be down there during the week protesting while people are at the capitol and friving and walking through the streets. If anyone got any pictures can you please upload them I would like to see them thank you.

I have a suggestion.

The next time a group of people get the notion that they are going to travel long distances to the Capitol to protest, instead of milling around outside waving signs and flags on a weekend, they should don their business attire to lobby the legislature on weekday.

Even the Youtube videos of being declined as an audience of the legislature has value. Video of the interaction between staffers getting all *****ly would be good.

How would it look if Daryl Steinberg slammed the door on women, asking how he think women will protect themselves with rape whistles?

Or Tom Ammiano is confronted by the Pink Pistols on his stand on disarming gays?

Or Leland Yee peppered with questions exposing his complete ignorance of firearms, to the point he couldnt construct an intelligble sentence?

Discredit them among their own constituents and make it viral.

This thing needs a serious leadership with cash infusion for bail money and attorneys.

I went because I so badly regretted not going to the July 4th one. That one was huge, and on a Thursday.

I wonder what the Pink Pistols think about that.

A very thoughtful & a winning strategy we can employ to win this battle...

Hopefully people won't shove this idea to the side.

I couldn't make this one. The one earlier this year my girlfriend and I both attended and it was pretty packed! Sam Paredes was there so maybe he didn't notify the GOC group.

Sorry to hear it was not as expected. I also wish that a thread was put in the gun section as a reminder fo me and many others to look here for this.

I know Pennysdad got flak that last time for this, but it needs to be done.

As I missed this. you would think that one would automatically open this thread first, but it's not so... Again sorry.

I agree. I think there are a lot of quick drive by log ins who just come in to look at pics or gun hobby stuff and miss the whole 2A advocacy section.

You fellows were aware that this was widely distributed over facebook, a social media whollly unconnected with this website, right? I dont think whether or not it was seen by the 'hobbists' and part time shooters is a factor in the participation metric here.

Protests outside on the Capitol steps is a tactic of limited and diminishing returns. IIRC there were three this year- and each sucessive event exhausted the participants inclination to make a return trip, because each event failed to achieve any measurable sucess. (That is, excepting the sense of belonging during the cheerleading.) By the time people get home, they wonder why they drove for X number of hours and burned X gallons of gas to get there for a pep talk.

In order to get the attention we need, we require significant numbers (10,000-50,000) to lock down the Capitol on a weekday while the legislature is in session or to take the number we do have to pepper them upon our representatives in a marathon of lobbying.

Now that organizers have proven for the rest of us that shaking a sign outside does not work here, it is unlikely that any other future group will achieve 10k-50k participants.... ever. This sucessfully demotivated the majority of gunowners into apathy and frustration.

We have passed the time where we need to change tactics. Let's learn from this, regroup and move forward.

I fully agree. Any money spent for gas, parking, lodging, meals, etc. would do more good being sent to the NRA to further their lobbying activities.

I dont take any issue with donating to the NRA, but we need to make sure the funds remain in California so we may push the battle here.

I also want to make it clear, that there is nothing wrong with burning gas and drive time to go to the state house, but gun owners need to go inside to talk to legislators.

Who were the guys with the petitions getting signatures against the gun bills? I'd need to contact them or one of them if they are on here or one of you know how I can reach them please.
