Robertmcm thank you so very much. I received my packet today. Sent $50 back with the survey.

Let us not forget, a Lifetime membership doesn't mean no more support for the NRA.

Thank you for supporting the NRA. You are right, a life membership should not be where one stops supporting the NRA.

NRA's Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) and Political Victory Fund (PVF) need donations also. The support does not end with just membership dues.

Not to be contradictory, but I'm not so sure I'm down with the NRA. It seems to me they represent the gun industry, not firearms owners. Both the gun industry and the NRA benefit from creeping gun control legislation, which the NRA uses to promote fear and increase membership. And I say this as a former dues paying member for many years.

Obama is the best friend the NRA and gun industry ever had.

PM replied and thanks for supporting the NRA. Folks this is still available. I feel the NRA is important. Do I think it is perfect? Well no. I used to fuss about it, but had rather try to change it for the better in its elections. To each his own. Currently it is our loudest voice.

As I understand the NRA has a full time representative dedicated to California. If you have been following the hearings they are speaking up for us.

Here's some info. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/a.../t-701487.html

Excuse me Armando, but I am a little confused. You state that there is creeping gun control legislation and that the NRA benefits from that. Why should that be a conflict to you? If people see that their Right to self defense is being threatened, then why wouldn't they want to join the organization that protects it?

If you are going to talk about the NRA, be accurate when you state things as "facts" and tell the truth when you make assumptions. You've done neither.

And, while you are at it, man-up and post your REAL NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER, EMAIL ADDRESS, ETC. so that we will know who you are. I do it. So you should too. Let's converse like adults and do it so that everyone knows who is saying what.

Hey folks, everyone has their opinions, and thanks for standing up for the NRA. However, the only purpose of the thread is to offer discounted life memberships in the NRA. I could spend a lot of time going through what I dislike about the NRA and some of the things they have done. At one time I swore I would never send them another dime. Now I find myself sponsoring hundreds of life members and doing a lot of other things.

I also feel that anti NRA posts in this thread are just trolls, so lets not feed them. To those who genuinely disagree with the NRA: start a thread about it. Support your state org or another gun rights group. There are plenty out there. As long as you are standing and fighting we are on the same team. Competing rights organizations are a good thing.

Offer is still going strong, and despite the lack of posts, we are averaging between 10-20 new life members every week. That is also 10-20 people sending dollars to other gun groups, 99% of which is the CalGuns Foundation. I think the thread so far has been for the better of the cause.

The way I see it, is the several hundred who have signed up here have become engaged in the NRA, and California's voice through voting members in the NRA has increased.

Thanks to the mods here for letting me continue this, and thanks to all of you for supporting all gun owners.

So the NRA needs more members and money in order for it do something that is vows to do? Im sorry but collecting money and telling its members to call and email its representatives which does absolutely nothing is not fighting for its members or for society. Do Mothers Against Drunk Driving say to donate before they start fighting for all members of society against drunk driving? Show me action against real anti gun legislation in today's current laws and you will have my lifetime membership in the mail. California has been passing anti gun laws for years with no serious opposition. Yes I do my part every time I go to the polls. Yes I try to convince others to see things differently. We need some help here California. Its citizens with limited resources cannot be left to blame anymore.

Seriously, I'm just here to help people if they want a NRA life membership. Don't see why you should have a problem with that. Either you support them or you don't. I imagine you could get the answers you are looking for if you start a thread on it. I know it is difficult to scroll up a few posts and all.

I was wrong about the NRA here in California. I had a knee jerk reaction on Black Friday, but now understand that they are the only legitimate advocate. Please join.

Got my full LIFE MEMBER packet in the mail today.... gold leaf certificated, stickers, pin, patches, etc. So excited to actually put my money where my mouth is. Thanks Robert! I will spread the word.

As to people criticizing the NRA... the fact that compared to any other group, their name is a dirty word and object of fear and loathing for grabboids, the subject of a Michael Moore movie, even inspiring people like Bloomberg to put part of his personal fortune into creating something to "balance" their legislative influence, should tell you something of how valuable they are to preserving the 2nd to the best of their ability.

Life member now.

NRA is fighting a war on our rights on multiple fronts. Wars cost money, think of this as buying war bonds.

If you don't want to sign up you don't have too. Go troll somewhere else.

We would be in a much worse position without the NRA.

Looks like they have just taken the web link down. Will call my contacts at HQ and try to continue this as we have in the past via phone, or me signing people up myself.

Chill a bit. Your defense of the NRA is a distant second on the scale of what is about to happen in this state. People are emotionally raw, confused and feel betrayed by the pending legislation.

The truth is that we have all failed to stem this disaster.

Actually the vast majority of actual legitimate membership based advocacy groups do EXACTLY what the NRA does.

NRA gets a bit of corporate donations, and some advertising revenue, but like all the legitimate grass roots organizations, gets most of its operating funds from member dues.

In fact the relatively high proportion of member dues within the NRA income, make it more legitimate.

And your example, mothers against drunk driving is not 1/50th the membership of NRA. and MADD has an EASY job to do. MADD is not a true membership organization. It has gotten millions in federal government funding, and the rest of its money it has gotten from telemarketers who keep half the money.

The NRA has clout because of its membership. Magazines that are given away for free cant command respect from advertisers. The ones people pay for can. A membership organization that doesn't charge dues has way less o clout in Washington or state capitals. When the NRA says 5 million dues paying members/households that has enormous clout because elected officials know that is a legit number of committed individuals.

AS far as your frustration at eroding gun rights you are gravely mistaken. It would be 1,000x WORSE if not for the NRA
