I grew up in Merced, great place to be from.

We used to shoot all the time going way out La Paloma Road off G Street. Of course you need to be careful to avoid shooting anywhere near any livestock or buildings, but there's so much space out there they're not hard to avoid.

Even though it's all private out there, we never had any issues. That was 25 years ago though. These days, who knows. Might be worth the short drive to check out.

Edit: Oh yeah, and DO NOT SHOOT directly from the road. Find a wide spot and shoot from well off the shoulder. We had a deputy out there once, way back when, and he didn't care that we were shooting, just wanted to make sure that we weren't shooting from the road. FYI - it's all dirt from G street to Merced Falls Road.

I frequent SJR&P quite a bit too. I just prefer shooting outside. Nice place, though they've become a LOT more restrictive these days than in years past.

I'd be down for organizing a shoot one day. Who's up for going? I hear weekdays are better for lack of crowds.

I'm down for a group shoot there. Even during the weekends, I haven't had problems getting a lane on their 100 or 50 yd ranges.

It's just too bad they don't allow buckshot. My girlfriend wants to try out her newly acquired Mossy

So let's get a range day in Linden together now that all the insanity is over with! Who is interested and what are your schedules like? Wednesday afternoons are great for me.

If no one mentioned it, you get a sub-forum in the Norcal forum (Sacramento, Bay Area etc.) by having one or more C3's step up to coordinate events, shoots, dinners, Town Halls, etc.

No C3, no sub-forum. I think that's the way that Penny's Dad, the honcho of the C3's, and Kestryll identify a serious grop.

Live close to Manteca, frequent the Manteca Sportsmen Inc gun range early mornings weekdays when it is not too hot that is. And I have the money.

Another poor soul in Merced. Can't believe it took me this long to find the thread. Then again, not like I log in here very often anymore

Good to know there are others in the neighborhood, though.

Down to meet people in the gun world... M-F after 4:30PM. Sat-Sun avaialble all day as well.

There's also Manteca's outdoor range which is pretty good (just went out there two times within the last week). They're open 8am-7pm everyday. Have to double check for Tuesdays though because they sometimes do range work.

Never been out to the Manteca range yet.. Also my buddy went out there a couple times, he said they'd just be staring at you like you was doing something bad, but can't say I wasn't there.. Lol

That Range is sub par, ive been out there about 7 time and don't think i will ever be returning. The range is hot for about 3 minutes then they freeze the range, takes them 9 minutes to walk the 100 and back, the same guys are always out there. Elitests shooting from there gun rest, don't allow you to shoot prone never manacured its just sad that its the only range within a 30 minute driving distance.

Have you tried the Linden outdoor range? I haven't myself, but plan to eventually.
