Default Frank Proctor Performance Pistol DVD

I just received my Frank Proctor Performance Pistol DVD ($35) and will be doing a review over the holidays. It's 69 minutes long.

Here are the chapters:
  • Control
  • Seeing
  • Mechanics
  • Movement

Here's what the caption on the back of the DVD says:
Focused on operating the pistol AGGRESSIVELY and ACCURATELY, this course sharpens your weapons handling skills and safe pistol operation in a dynamic Tactical or Competition environment.

See fast, Process fast and Engage fast and accurate, while keeping multiple rounds on target and driving the gun through multiple targets while moving.

All of the techniques in this video are combat and competition proven.

Here are a couple of trailers:

About Frank Proctor
I have served over 18 years in the military, the last 11 of those in US Army Special Forces. Over the last 7 years I have trained DOD personnel in Combat Marksmanship, Close Quarters Battle, Breaching and Sniper/Observer Operations in addition to deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. During my Special Forces Career I have had the privilege to serve with and learn from many experienced and knowledgeable Special Forces Operators, I have learned from their combined years of knowledge and experience as well as my own to help me become a better operator. After a couple years as an instructor for the Special Forces Advanced Urban Combat Course, I was drawn to competitive shooting in May of 2007. My passion for shooting helped earn the rank of Grand Master in Limited division in a little over a year. I also hold a Master ranking in IDPA Stock Service Pistol. I have learned a great deal from shooting in competition that has helped me become a better tactical shooter. I bring my experiences as a Special Forces Operator, Competitive Shooter and Instructor to my courses. All those experiences combine to make me a well-rounded shooter and instructor capable of helping you achieve your goals of becoming a better shooter. My brand of shooting is performance oriented. My thoughts on that are; whether in competition or combat, the guy who scores the most points fastest wins. My courses are based off a proven methodology of understanding the Fundamentals and Principles of Performance Marksmanship, efficient techniques to manipulate the guns and move and perhaps most importantly, how to see fast. I look forward to training with you and giving you the tools to reach your goals as a shooter.

Frank is an amazing instructor, and all around good guy.

I would recommend him, without reservation, to anybody from beginner to super duper ultra high speed.

Yes, some tactical turtle. Also, Dynamic Pie Concepts makes their big screen debut, John Deere hats and all.

Thanks. I like my new name: Top Ramen! Ram is fine.

Like SvenFrost I was in two classes with Frank this past year so we can share instructions from those classes pertinent to the DVD. I'm curious as to how much of the core of Frank's instruction is in there but the chapter headings give me a clue that the essentials are there.

I am getting some points and nuance I missed in the class. There is always so much going on in a class.

Default Mini Review & Video On Demand

Frank clearly explains what you need to do to be a Performance Pistol shooter.

Basically, applying the correct ratio of speed and accuracy to single or multiple targets while moving & manipulating the pistol with the goal of getting maximum "points" in minimum time based on target size / distance.

His principles of shooting are condensations of the fundamentals of marksmanship geared towards maximum efficiencies in minutest details.

All the four main categories of Control, Seeing, Mechanics and Moving are further broken down into subcategories and not only does he explain them clearly but there are many demonstrations by him and various students.

The essence of his classes and core instruction are well captured within the DVD and it's well worth your while.

I found out now that instead of buying the DVD for $35 + $7 shipping or $42 total you can just watch it as many times as you want for 30 days via Vimeo on Demand for just $19.95!

Vimeo on Demand: Frank Proctor Performance Pistol (HD)

Finally, great job by Frank and also Phong of SMG for producing this video.

That's cool!

There was another great trailer which I forgot to include. Also, SMG just released an important segment on "Deliberate Loading" that did not make the DVD cut.

Another good video by SMG with Frank showing you how to deliberately load the carbine:

Thanks, Ram! As an addendum to the above, we are taking input regarding the next DVD - Performance Carbine! If you are on FaceBook, please visit Frank's FB page and post your question or like your favorite.

Nothing per se, if done correctly and with an actual purpose in mind.

Some defensive and "tactical" trainers have been sloppy in teaching a proper scan-n-assess. They teach it almost as a perfunctory, rote "head fake", which is useless and ridiculous.

The goal should be to actually observe your surroundings in an attempt to perceive anything of importance ... i.e. another threat, witnesses, approaching law enforcement, etc.

A case can also be made that it is of limited utility in a team-tactics context. A well-trained team already has every point on the compass covered, so there isn't perhaps much sense in breaking your own field of observation away from your assigned sector.

I just watched this and it was VERY good! I was wondering there is a few clips where it showed him blind folded. What was he doing? I would like to see a clip of him explaining.

Hello, IIRC, we were running that drill to test our response time to the timer and test our trigger speed. Those things are isolated very quickly when you don't have the benefit of sight.
And thank you for your order!

Wait, not the Frank Proctor, USPSA Grandmaster and US Army Special Forces Veteran Frank Proctor.… Yes? Just wanted to make sure....

Frank "My thoughts on that are; whether in competition or combat, the guy who scores the most points fastest wins. My courses are based off a proven methodology of understanding the Fundamentals and Principles of Performance Marksmanship, efficient techniques to manipulate the guns and move and perhaps most importantly, how to see fast".

NOPE, competition will get you killed in the real world. Every tactical guy knows this, It's like the first thing they teach at tactical school.

Seriously, who actually teaches that at any "tactical" or self-defense-oriented class?

I've never heard it said once. I am beginning to think it's an urban myth.
