Just for that, if you get a master bump at the nationals in SSP, I WILL rat you out as you will instantly become an expert in CDP under the new rule book. Just to be safe, sand bag the nationals...

Question for those that have read the new rule book. If you run dry while out in the open and initiate a reload (but cannot shoot again until behind cover) can you let the EMPTY mag drop to the ground on your way to cover and leave it? I know if you tactical reload (behind cover) you have to retain the mag but the slide lock reload does not say so. It would seem 3.7-3.12 would have covered it. So retention is ONLY when the mag still has ammo or one is in the chamber yes?

Yes. And remember that you are no longer allowed to reload while "advancing" in a stage (ie moving to next shooting position...even if behind cover). Going dry in the open is the only time you are allowed to reload on the move.

Yes, that is my understanding as well. If you run dry, slide lock no rounds in the chamber or magazine, the magazine would not need to be retained.

And be sure to use the new rulebook for checking these items. It will be in effect at the time of the match.
I don't remember, did they use the box at the regional?

Yeah, I guess I was a little surprised by this as well. All the prizes at the regional were random draw based in the ticket you get with your entry. I guess maybe because of the extra guns and gear? I guess I need to buy 100 tickets for a shot at the Dillon?

Gryff and RoundEye thank you very much for your take on the rules. I want to make sure I understand everything as the new rules go into effect for the state event, as well as maintain clarity between USPSA and IDPA.

This is a Tier 3 match. So you better make sure your ammo is good or you shoot for no score.
1.2.1.3.13. Chronographing competitor ammunition is required.
1.2.1.3.14. Equipment checks are required. Equipment checks include ensuring the gun is within
weight limits and fits in the “IDPA box” as specified in the Equipment Rules section. Proper
placement and design of ammunition storage device holders and holsters must also be checked.

Uh oh...wonder if I'm going to make chrono...

Then again, I am shooting SSR. As long as my bullets are moving slightly faster than a stiff wind, I'm legal!

Mental note, extra scrutiny on Gryff's ammo. Oh I forgot to mention I'm one of the guys running the chrono.

Yeah, I was going to say if it makes it out of the barrel it should make PF. Now, will it penetrate the cardboard is another story!

If the dent leaves a grease ring, then the benefit of the doubt goes to the shooter!

I was running a shooter at a match 2 weeks ago that had a bullet bounce off the cardboard. It was a 40 S&W that he loaded into his 45 ACP 1911. The unfired cartridge that was in front of said bullet did go through the cardboard, although it was sideways when it went through. Sounded funny when he fired, so he got the loudest STOP he had ever heard. They heard it next door. Turns out he had grabbed some of my ammo off the bench in error. Glad he did not blow up his gun.

PM720.. The prize table will work exactly like it did at out regional last year. Door prizes will be included in the shooters bag. The two Glocks are in addition to door prizes. Tickets will be sold 1 For $10 and 3 for $25 for the other four guns and Dillon 650.

In additon, there will be a strict equip check and chrono is mandatory per the NRB.

Actually, the Taft IDPA crew was thinking of wearing slings the whole match. I still might. Keep the SOs on their toes and the next time Chad says, "You wouldn't normally wear that." I can say I most certainly do.

I probably normally don't run around with my baby carrier on my head either! LOL.

You should show penance for your sins by hauling a baby carrier around in every stage of the match next month.

Actually, you need a couple pictures of you wearing one while working. Then show them to Chad the next time you see him.

I actually have a newborn. I should snap some photos of me hauling her around with that strap. Better yet, I might just shoot the whole match with her strapped to my side!

Actually, Taft IDPA is doing Fabulous Ferrous Fracas this month, but I think in October I might make a stage where you have to haul a baby carrier around on a strap. Why not?

I was thinking of getting a button made of it and wear it on my vest. I still might.

Now don't forget, we are just having fun here. I agree with the FTDR call and am in no way disparaging the Winton match. However, you have to admit it was about as fun and legit as a FTDR as you can get. I honestly am glad I got it. I had a great and fun match and the FTDR was part of it.

I however, won't be doing it again. I learned my lesson.

Stupid question: does my IDPA card need to be physically signed with my classification, or will the printout from the IDPA website be sufficient?

That's up to the match staff, but the new rules say that the database on the HQ website is the only official record of classification (as of Oct. 1st). Most matches will accept a printout of your classification page as your proof, but you should email the match staff directly.

So that brings up an interesting question. The club I classified with back in February did not report scores to IDPA HQ, so all I have is my signed membership card which was accepted for registration for the match. Since the match is taking place after 10/01, and under the new rulebook do I need to worry about contacting the club and insuring that the correctly report my classification?

I have an email into IDPA HQ to confirm.

I received a response from IDPA HQ, and they updated my record in their DB. I emailed them a copy of my signed classification/membership card, and a copy of my scoresheet from my most recent classifier.

They did not say if this was required or not, but it seemed like it was done just to prevent any issues.
