Default J&G Sales has Type 53s for $100

Supposedly Century-rated good condition. The link is here.

20 bucks cheaper than last time...
In the details they say that they "may have minor cracks"
I wonder if these are just some of the last ones Century has been selling as cracked stocks.

The condition of the representative image is enough to drive me away. They usually have their best examples on the display pic. The one in the display is rusted all over the place. If that's their best, I do not want!

The stocks are trashed and the metal is really rough.

I returned two of them.....

Century has 3/$270 at the moment. The stocks are typical beat up Chinese stocks, but the metal was clean...

I see no reason to order them from JG, unless you plan on getting 1 or 2. Century still has them for $90 shipped when you by 3 or more.

The stocks are beat to hell, but great shooters.

Has anyone ever seen a NICE condition T53? I would like to have one but rust, pitting and cracked stocks are not appealing to me.

A couple of the ufix i got had way above avg stocks and a couple had stocks that looked like two beavers played tug of war with them. its hit and miss with these. the metal is typically good

The catalpa wood they used for the stocks is kind of soft and porous.
of the 4 century arms $60 T-53 I bought. 1 was all matching numbers non cracked stock that cleaned up using purple power. it is 1954.8 my 1954.11 has a broken in 3 piece stock with 90%+ bluing the other 2 were normal T-53 that would clean up nice. all had nice shiny bores. no rust at all. minimum of 85% bluing. I may buy more at $59.87 each.

That has to be the prettiest T53 I have ever seen!

Hoping to get in on these before they disappear - for the price it seems like a no brainer - just need my FFL to show up in the mail -

why is price everything most of the time. to me condition is more important than price. i am sure 100 will not get you a rifle to be proud of. chances of getting a nice one for that price are remote. i do not want a lot of these just a few very nice rifles.

Price is important to me because I have to find the best quality for the least cost. Its called shopping around and is usually for people who like to save money or dont have the luxury of paying more when its possible to pay less for something of equal or better quality.

After seeing the $100 rifle and the $60 rifle which one would you seek? I want one too! Haaha

i do not have much gun money, but i refuse to invest in rough rifles no matter what. every time i bought a less than nice condition rifle i sold it not long later. i do respect that gun collecting is made up of all types of people.
if i bought a t-53 and the wood had lots of dings, maybe a small crack or two and the metal finish was poor i just could not enjoy owning the rifle.
different strokes.

Im with you and that's why I can't believe the rifles that people posted for $60. They're so nice, actually like another poster said - the nicest t53 theyve ever seen.

Ive some nice m44's but not 53's.

in my mind nice means no rust or pitting, good bluing or at leas the metal is shinny. all the internal metal is perfect. the wood has to be nice enough that if you chose to you could refinish it with minimal sanding and it would be perfect. spending hours removing surface rust does not qualify as nice to me.

These have been selling for so long now they must be getting toward the bottom of the pile. All I have seen had beat stocks and good metal. I know there are exceptions but this seems the norm. I think for a shooter or truck gun its a great buy for the money. I doubt they will ever be collectable or gain much value but I would buy a crate full If I could.

Check out my T53 stock refinish thread. It's not immaculate, but it's not thrashed. It's got enough character that it's cool to me. I think I'll like it better once I finish working on it. Sometimes a rough rifle can grow on you

I do agree that cheap doesn't mean you should buy it. Each their own though

sounds like you got a good one, nothing better than a nice rifle and a bargain.
